    Vonage Mobile

Has anyone used Vonage Mobile to call back to the USA while in Sosua?

I have the Vonage Mobile app on my iphone and I am planning to use it to make any calls that I need to make back to the USA. I assume that I will need to buy a calling plan or vonage credits in order to call a landline or cellphone in the USA.

I plan to use wifi to make the calls.

    Is this going to work?

I had a Vonage chat rep tell me that I would not be able to make a call from the DR back to the USA. I don't really believe them as the vonage website seems to indicate you can.

I have a DR phone to deal with calls in Sosua.
I am tired of being raped by AT and T for calls back to USA and I even have world traveler but 1.69 minute is robbery.

I considered skype but don't really want another number but will resort to that if necessary as I know it works.

    thanks for the input

Just use your DR phone to call back to the States. Its cheap that way. A hell of a lot cheaper than using AT&T. I call back all the time on my DR phone.

If your phone has wifi calling on it, you can call to the states for free when you are in a wifi area.

I used the Vonage app with wifi to call the States from Bogota and Curacao.
    Never had a problem.

    Re: Vonage Mobile

I was able to use the vonage mobile app on my iphone to call back to the USA no problem as long as there is a good wi fi connection. It uses your regular number but the people you are calling in the usa might know your not calling from the normal cell phone as I was told the caller id said number unavailable.

But it worked good for me as I didn't have to hide my location or have to pay the ridiculous rates charged by AT & T.

I have an Ooma (VOIP) calling device I use at home, and the application on my Iphone. I use the app to call back to the states when I'm outside of the US and it shows my US home (Ooma) number. I also use my Ooma phone to call the DR from home as it's only 8.9 cents a minute, versus the 15 cents Skype charges.
