The Attorney General of the Republic has suspended the general prosecutor of the Appeals Court and the district attorney of the Judicial District of Duarte (San Francisco de Macoris) province for refusing to request preventive custody in a case. Both officials were suspended for not requesting remand to custody against the prosecutor from Villa Riva. Amado Rosa, the prosecutor for the Appeals Court and Regis Victorio Reyes, the district attorney, were suspended by order of the Attorney General, Francisco Dominguez Brito.

According to Listin Diario, the decision came after the two officials did not ask the judge for Permanent Attention for preventive custody against Hector Luis Balcacer, a prosecutor of the Justice of Peace in Las Guaranas, in the municipality of Villa Riva, who is facing accusations of extortion. The defendant was only required to report to the court every month. The prosecutor is accused of extorting money in order to obtain the release of family members being held in jail.
