Leading civic watchdog group Participacion Ciudadana has issued a report on President Danilo Medina's first month in government with a positive note. The report recognizes the government's efforts to support new sectors, changes in rulings as a way of giving an impression of austerity, ethical behavior and transparency.

It also recognizes efforts aimed at a more austere use of government spending, giving as examples the elimination of the National Council for State Reform and the Commission for Reform and Modernization of Justice by way of Decrees 545-12 and 499-12. In an official statement, Citizen Participation asks President Medina to eliminate or merge government bodies that have no real function and that compete with other government entities. It mentioned the example of the Supervisory Office for State Projects (OISOE) that duplicates the role of the Ministry of Public Works.
