The governments of the Dominican Republic and the United States have signed an amendment to the agreement for cooperation for the improvement of the economy and quality of life of Dominicans through the strengthening of democracy, economic growth, health and education. The agreement, which was signed by US Ambassador Raul Yzaguirre and Economy, Planning and Development Minister Juan Temistocles Montas, sets out that the United States will contribute US$23,489,208, bringing the total available for sector-specific projects to US$201,234,13.

USAID mission director Alexandria L. Panehal said that work has been carried out with the Ministries of Education and Public Health to improve elementary school education, mother-child care and AIDS programs.
