The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is interested in installing factories to assemble buses, manufacture low-energy consumption light bulbs and an apparel free zone in the Dominican Republic. Duong Minh, Vietnam Communist Party director for the Middle East, Africa and Latin America visited the Dominican Republic for talks with the government. In an interview with Listin Diario, he said state-owned Vietnam mobile network operator Viettel was already operating in Haiti and Peru.

Other members of the Vietnamese mission were Chu Duc Tinh, director general of the Ho Chi Minh Museum, Vi Kien Thanh, director of the Department of Fine Arts, Duong Huy Toan, director of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Communist Party, Pham Thanh Son, administrative director of the Department of Protocol and Administration, and Nguyen Khac Thinh of the Ho Chi Minh Museum.

Miguel Mejia, minister without portfolio, was their host in the country. They met with Senate president Reinaldo Pared, Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Morales Troncoso, and the mayor of Santo Domingo East. They reached an agreement to build a square to honor late Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh.
