Sans Souci Ports has announced the ongoing clean up of the Ozama River, with an investment of RD$70 million. Codralux was hired to dredge the access channel to the Port of Sans Souci and is expected to remove 150,000 cubic meters of sediment and garbage. The works are under way to reach the depth required by cruise ships entering the city port. The dredging process is expected to last six months. Amaury Romero, operations director for Sans Souci Ports said that 60% of everything that is extracted from the river is sediment, mud, and residential and industrial waste. He called for greater efforts for a comprehensive cleanup of the Ozama and Isabela rivers.
