    Air Canada Rouge

Air Canada is starting a charter airline Rouge.

Flights of interest include Puerto Plata, Varadero, San Jose in Costa Rica, Kingston

There is a 6 days sale now for flights starting in July to October

One way YYZ-POP taxes included is $269

That does not fly well with me. Last year I booked AA for $430 two ways.

However, pay attention to this one. I hope it will add capacity in case other carrier would not take their planes out of these routes.

It's not the tax rates....it's the airport fees. Unlike US airports, ours are not subsidized by the government in any fashion. All of the new infrastructure you see in all of our airports (which are actually more modern and newer than US airports) has to be paid for by the traveling public. Airports are free to charge whatever fees they want on top of the ticket to pay for this new infrastructure....this has led al lot of Torontonians to travel from Buffalo and Montrealers to travel from Platsburgh....which amazingly offers services in French to attract the business...and people in Vancouver to travel from Bellingham or Seattle.

We have a totally different airport funding system than the US. Ours is based totally on user pay; while there's is subsidized by federal, state and municipal levels.

well damn i didn't know that

as a frequent traveller it hurts me more than the once or twice a year traveller but i suck it up being a laid back canuck

besides i believe it should be a user pay system for everything..........why should the people that never use something have to pay for it is my thinking

but on the same thought process i dont think my tax dollars should be wasted on crappy art displays that i will never see or appreciate either so maybe the non travellers should subsidize me afterall

    Re: Air Canada Rouge

Here is how AC is fucked up.

Airfare on Aeroplan to POP is 40,000 miles plus taxes and fees.

I have got 30,000 miles. Airfare for my search is $330

When I try to buy 10,000 more miles, AC's system generates almost $300 payment to buy those miles.

I have to give up my 30,000 miles, pay almost $300 for 10,000 miles and taxes and fees (with fuel surcharge)

How fucked up is that? Are they out of their mind??

i have done that math many times and its never a good for us scenario to buy miles

when i flew to pop with aeroplan bookings i went with united yyz thru newark for 60,000 miles and 184$ (but that was 1st class as they didnt have good dates for me for short stays with economy bookings)
