    dominican to columbia flight

    hi
i was thinking about trying out colombia when i am in dr for 6 weeks
i have looked at copa airways from sd to cali but its around 900 us dollars
is that the normal price or are there cheaper airlines that go there from dr?

no, that sounds about right. if you have frequent flyer miles - that's a good flight to use them for. using miles on united/star alliance I know is only about 20k miles r/t + taxes (less than $100) from DR to Colombia. 20k miles to save $800 is a great deal.

There are not 100's of flights available from one location to another but there are 100's of chicas.

got to go to germany from london then to pop and same on the way back all in cattle class economy
as its the 6 week school holidays when i fly thats all i could get.
i could have done united again cheaper but never again to much of a pain in the ass
night in newark in hotel stopover on the way but the worst part was coming home last time.
a 2 hour stopover to connect i thought was enough time as united were the ones to book it.
got to passport control and only 2 people working them with 40 people in front of me.
i told the lady i had a connecting flight can i bump the line but she just kept saying u have loads of time.
time i got my bag from carousel then bag drop and then through passport control in departures i got to the gate just as we were boarding
so i wont b doing that journey again
go via germany drop my bag in london pick it up in pop same on way home

Virgin Flies non stop to JFK for like $600.. London <> NYC is soooo cheap... ( I have to pay $1000 + to go to germany, etc, but london always seems so cheap,) .. is it more if you do it the other way away around ?
Anyway, point is, if you were to fly to JFK, you could then grab a Jet Blue flight to STI or POP, and maybe save a bundle.
or at least $500, but possibly even more like $700 , no ? And if you are with a Wingman, thats a cool $1,000, and thats not pocket change, thats a LOT of TLN's mate.. LOL .
    I could be wrong.

Why is it too late? How much is the cancellation fee? It may be worth it to cancel, pay the fee, and book it with a deal once again... Unless $1900 bucks is nothing to you...??

Dude, since you're planning to hit up Boca and Sosua anyways, why didn't you look into flights that arrived at Santo Domingo (SDQ), Santiago (STI) as well as Puerto Plata (POP).

I found a flight for the month of August and 1/2 september into SDQ for 1490. You're gonna be taking the bus across the island anyway so why not save $400+ if you still have the option.

OR as DEEZL said try routing through the states (NYC) or MIA and then off to the DR. Could save alot for a little inconvenience.

JFK to POP sucks as its been on the high end for a while now, didn't know it was that high though. But it is August and we have our summer break here too and airfare doesn't really come down until september after labor day or after the kids go back to school (whichever comes first).

I agree with DVR1 though if you were going to be hitting Boca anyway you could have stopped at either end of the island. SDQ, STI or POP. POP I think only has 1 flight option a day from JFK but SDQ has more options and so does STI plus they are usually lower priced than POP. SDQ would be the best since you could just hit Boca from there. STI is a good alternative to POP airport but you still have to manage getting from STI to POP unless you planned to spend some of your trip there.

When I checked last year sti to Medellin was under $500. Took copa from sti to San Jose for around $400 but prices change all the time.

i take it for granted that NYc to SDQ is only 3.5 hours and prices are $350-$450....

You would probably be better off bouncing through the US and using a discount flyer.. A quick check with Spirit - Santo Domingo to Medellin via Ft. Lauderdale and then back (four one way flights) can be done for around $600 (plus luggage fees) in the month of May.

Also I would check out this site: http://matrix.itasoftware.com/

This site is very good at finding interesting routes between two points using many airlines... For example you mentioned Cali: From Santo DOmingo to Miami to San Salvador to Cali then back to Santo Domingo direct can be done for 763.00 using a combination of American, TACA and Avianca airlines .... It will give you a calendar showing the cheapest price for your desired flight for any given day.. The cheapest I saw for for STI-MDE for May was $755

Looking at the breakdown of the $763 round trip ticket.. Those Dominican really like the airport fees

Fare 1: Carrier AA NNE7C1Z1 SDQ to MIA (rules)
Passenger type ADT, one-way fare, booking code N
    Covers SDQ-MIA (Economy)

    $117.00
Fare 2: Carrier TA UZA00TGQ MIA to CLO (rules)
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code U
    Covers MIA-SAL (Economy), SAL-CLO (Economy)

    $142.50
Fare 3: Carrier AV PEA00TFB CLO to SDQ (rules)
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code P
    Covers CLO-BOG (Economy), BOG-SDQ (Economy)

    $256.00
Dominican Republic Transportation Tax (DO) $92.90
    Colombia Tourism Tax (JS) $15.00
US September 11th Security Fee (AY) $2.50
    USDA APHIS Fee (XA) $5.00
    US Immigration Fee (XY) $7.00
    US Customs Fee (YC) $5.50
Dominican Republic International Airport Departure Tax (AA) $20.00
Dominican Republic Airport Authority Fee (UX) $15.00
Dominican Republic Airport Infrastructure Fee (VB) $16.30
US Passenger Facility Charge (XF) $4.50
Dominican Republic Airport Authority Fee (UX) $15.00
Dominican Republic Airport Infrastructure Fee (VB) $16.30
Colombia Int'l Airport Tax (TASA) (CO) $32.00
    Subtotal per passenger $763.00
    Number of passengers x1
    Total airfare & taxes $763.00

    Oh! Look honey,

If I want to do a round trip from to Thailand from Santo Domingo, it's only $5800.00 lol
If you think it's love try not paying in the morning..

Robert did it for 2K. Santiago to JFK, JFK to Bejing, Bejing to Bangkok. 5800 is absurd.
