Yes, he is having a seafood special night for about 650 pesos and another special night with small portions of his regular menu for 100 pesos each...sort of like tapas... I have never eaten there, but he looked like he was very concerned about the food preparation and quality as I observed him teaching his cooks the other day... In my experience, for big events like mothers day and new years eve, most restaurants do not do their best job on the food quality, preparation of food and service because they have such a big turn-out...
I am quite certain they won't allow drunks and naked chicas. And any type of ISOC party would only happen if members had rented all the rooms in the hotel so there would be no families there. They are just looking to make a nice place to hang out by the pool, eat and have a few beers with or without your chica. Nothing more. No wild shit going on.
I ate there last night. They had around 10 items on the 100 peso menu. They quality was good and, as expected, the portions were small. I had bbq chicken "sliders". Two small BBQ chicken sandwiches topped with coleslaw. And I had philly cheesesteak. Very tasty. You would probably need to eat 3 things off the menu to suffice for dinner. Variety was good also.
Enjoy it while you can.
Robert, have you stopped by the new pub that has taken over the old Cuba Libre? I know you live practically nextdoor. Ever notice any business going on when you walk by? With regard to chicas, has it become one of those "bring your own" type joints?
When I get back down I'll stop in to check the place out.

I dunno, you be the judge on this one... I got in trouble last Time I called some shit "gay".. around here.
LOL ..
that pink scented Candle on the coffee table scares me a little too.
Hey, what's wrong with Showtunes?
This place won't last... If was sitting just outside a large residential development or closer to the beach, maybe. But at that location not a chance.
I think somebody just wasted some money. Always hate to see that.
There goes Weyland being the brit snob again.
As always time will tell BUT this bar is aimed almost exclusively at expats and is doing very well. It's a niche business and most Fridays and Saturdays are packed.
It's not aimed at tourists, weekend warriors, hoe chasers or wanna be ballers, rather a sanctuary to enjoy conversation, quiet music, cheaper beer (80 peso grandes.....you hear me Sidney?), a cigar or a game of darts without having some fat arsed skank tugging your sleeve demanding "regalame una cerveza papi".
Add in that the leaseholder is basically only running the place for something to do and as long as he's not losing money hand over fist I think this place will last.
Mr. Smooth will love it and there isn't a fudge-packer in sight....lol
I visited The Pub a few times on my last trip as Freddy(Cuba Libre Bar) was still hanging around the bar. Rex, one of the owners i find to be a great host. It was a nice place to hangout with fellow Brits i have met over the years who either live or visit Sousa on a regular basis. The curry chicken Rex serves is to die for.
Many people still come down to see Fred at The Pub. I would end up kicking it with him at his bar at the back of the Pub. He mentioned that he may throw a Cuba Libre Bar reunion night where he would get most of the girls who previously worked for him back for a one night special. Now that would be an eventful night as most of those girls were freaks.
I have been told that Rod and Big D have cancelled their plans and pulled out of Colibri. 2nd hand info, so who knows for sure.
