Change for what? The taxi guy will certainly take dollars. If he quotes you more than $75 - $80 tell him he can make 700 pesos taking you to a hotel in Santiago or he can make $75 for taking you to Sosua. There will be more than one taxi at the airport so you can shop around. You can always stay at a Cabana for a few hours until the bus station opens. Getting into Sosua at 5:30 AM wouldn't be my choice but then again I am not on vacation.

I can only speak for the USA but, given enough advance notice, major banks can do currency exchanges. I asked at my bank prior to one of my trips and they told me with two weeks notice I could get pesos. I would have had to give them the dollars up front.

Well at 4am, what will you be doing besides traveling to sosua? Bring cash with you and by the time you get situated in sosua @ your hotel and even a nap, the cambios will be open to change whatever money you want.

I don’t understand what is the Rush to exchange$ at like 4 am ?, you are in a good position with USD til you get to Sosua
.. it’s not like you are carrying Russian Rubles, or Sheckles.. geez, they are very familiar with the dollar, and you have a calculator in your phone.. no one is going to give you a WORSE rate than what you get at the airport (which if the exchange is like 40-1, they would give you like 34 -1 , that is a Fact.
by the way US airport Kiosks are evern Worse yet, at like 32-1..

so what is the point... Just bring some singles, Fives, tens all different denominations and you are good to go til you get situated and the CHENGE guys start barking in the street.

Well, it's quite possible that he might want to get some toto while he's in Santiago. That's what I'd do. Head to Pasions (if they've reopened) or Illusions and get a quickie. More fun than $75-$80 cab ride to Sosua at 4am, IMO.

why do people take taxis to sosua, i just dont get it.. METRO has AC, and you can sleep like a baby. so comfortable.
