Malecon Center has apartments and the Hilton Hotel. Hilton is nice, floor to ceiling windows facing the sea.

Best deal for Movies. They have a VIP section with leather recliners and seatside service. If you go to the early movies, you have the place to yourself.

Great for avoiding all the Cel talkers/chatty noisemakers.

It's better to enter IKEA through the exit if you're going to the restaurant. If you go in the entrance, you have to walk through the entire store to get to the restaurant. That could take hours!

A guy rents out a nice studio apartment, I believe in this building, with a view of the sea, under $100US per night, close to the Malecon Center.

Depending the day of the week and time of day, auto racetrack and horse racetrack, 15 minutes from Avenida Pasteur.

Auto racetrack probably has nights when it is open to the public (dragstrip with your own car or motorcycle).

Nice walk from there past the presidential palace (home there with interesting element, root looking structures along the outside). I saw a nice apartment building near there where a group of young Haitians were probably living.

I only visited Barra Payan one time, last May 2013, loved the fruit shake there, I got a few sandwiches to go, to eat back at the apartment. Walked to Barra Payan from Pasteur and Malecon, nice easy walk, I believe it is 30 de Marzo from park independence up toward 27 de febrero. Mannequin shops and musical instrument shops along that street.

Wanted to try this spot after seeing the No Reservation episode. Koki took me to it last week. Great sandwiches, great prices and fast. You can even buy a gallon of fresh squeezed juice of your choice. It is on 30 de Marzo. You say it's not a bad walk from Pasteur? I'm going to give it a try.

Afterwards take the side street west, you'll pass their store next door where they sell whole fruit. Interesting area, some colmados with people outside (older crowd). After about two blocks hang a left and walk down the hill. People exercise around the presidential palace in the early evening.

Claro office also on 30 de Marzo. If driving and want to get onto Kennedy go straight on 30 de Marzo past 27 de Febrero and eventually a ramp that will put you onto Avenida Kennedy.

Make a left onto 27 de febrero and you can get to caribe tours bus station or continue driving west and make a U-turn at lincoln and double back for GBP.

Walking up 30 de Marzo you will see the Presidential Guard Building on your left.

Nightclubs closed in Gazcue

Dominican prosecutors continue to close down brothels located in the Gazcue area of Santo Domingo. Yesterday, Monday 16 September, the National District prosecutor office announced that two nightclubs, The Girls House and Sky High, were closed for violation of the law against trafficking in migrants and people. The owners Ronny Colalzo, Eden Mena Guirola and Marlen Llerena were arrested and the prosecutors say they will be charged, as reported in Hoy.
