    From their newsletter September 10, 2013;

    Santo Domingo Guide 2013
    The Ministry of Tourism and DR1 Guides have just released the updated version of the popular Santo Domingo Guide. The guide is the DR1 editor's choice of attractions of Santo Domingo for international visitors and city residents, too. It reminds readers that in 2014, the city will be the Ibero-American Capital of Carnival. It includes specially prepared information for cruise travelers, with brief descriptions of the main historical buildings in the Colonial City, parks, and attractions in other areas of the city. Read about the Botanical Gardens and the Malecon seafront boulevard, and what makes these city areas special. There are lists of shops, restaurants and nightspots. Shopping suggestions in 10 to Take, and a new Gustavo Mejia Ricart shopping, restaurant and night area map. Read about Chinatown, the beauty parlor culture and what the city has to offer children. What's Cooking Santo Domingo is an overview of city restaurants. There is the lowdown on what the city has to offer for organizing meetings. Highlights of side trips to Boca Chica and Juan Dolio for beaches and golf and culture at the San Pedro de Macoris rum historical center. Airlines flying into Las Americas and La Isabela airports are listed and there are updated maps of the Colonial City, Santo Domingo, Boca Chica and Juan Dolio and the Recommended Road Map to the Dominican Republic.

    Ruta del Chivo. Tour about the era of the Dictator Trujillo

    The tour uses the same make, model and year of the cars that were involved during the assassination of the Dictator Trujillo (1956 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight and 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air); http://www.latinamericanstudies.org/...o-museum-1.htm

    Saint-Domingue and Santo Domingo

    From wiki: "The colonial terms Saint-Domingue and Santo Domingo are sometimes still applied to the whole island, although these names refer, respectively, to the colonies that became Haiti and the Dominican Republic." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hispaniola
