    Barcelo Santo Domingo, Travelocity

Rates starting at $36US for two people, for some dates in September, October 2013; http://hotels.travelocity.com/hotel/...5&tab=features (click check rates to see which dates have rates that start at $36US)

Enter "DEAL5" to save 5% or "HOTEL75" to save $75 (if the base rate adds up to $300 or more). Various room options with; breakfast; breakfast and dinner; full board.

It is a very nice hotel. 90% chica friendly when I stayed there. I haven't stayed there in over 6 months. There is a new boss there, since I stayed and some of the workers I knew are no longer there.

Seems you could get full board (all meals) using the above coupon, for a little over $100US per night, for two people. When I stayed there, Club Premium lounge had free bottled Presidente beer, free red and white wine (Chile or Spain), free coffee (about 8 different types from a machine), free juice, free bottled water and soda. Early check-in and late check free, free wifi with club premium, free parking. I don't know if the free beverages are still offered in the club premium lounge.

I ate at the international restaurant in the lobby (good cheeseburger and fries) also an Asian restaurant in the lobby.

Starting in November the rates posted now, are over $100US per night.

Can be good to travel with some bikinis (to loan or give as a gift). Aeropostale site has a sale section sometimes with bikinis priced around $13US.

thats the prices before taxes. They prices are a bit better than booking through the site

Let us know how the stay is.

The $36US per night for two people (plus taxes) for weekends in September and October, for a standard room is a good price on travelocity (plus a 5% percent discount). Club Premium access doesn't add much to that price. Maybe some hotels are not taking the full ley tax (10%), I saw on the Shakey Hotel website that the ley tax they would charge is 5%. The ITBIS is at 18%.

You'll have fun (don't forget to bring some bikinis, lol).

Probably from mid September to mid December, should be good hotel rates in the Dominican Republic. Before the rates go up for winter tourist season.

Barcelo Santo Domingo is on the east side of Ave. Maximo Gomez at Avenida 27 de Febrero. Maximo Gomez near that location always has a police presence, day and night. AMET (motor vehicle police) usually always on Maximo Gomez during the day, near there. US Consulate about two blocks away, several Universities, National Theater and Plaza de Cultura, 5-10 minute walk from the Barcelo Santo Domingo Hotel. Metro stops close-by.

Club Premium access adds a little to the basic room rate, but is probably worth it. I have checked in around 10AM and checked out around 4PM with the Club Premium room and no extra charge.

New Boss at the Hotel since I stayed there, so I can't say if anything major has changed. I have entered with two amigas several times. I have had other mongers visit me at the 9th floor Club Premium lounge. Pool might be open late (maybe 11pm), jacuzzi on the 9th floor was open to 11PM.

Casino, lobby bar (sometimes with live music and Karaoke), cigar lounge, cigar store in the Hotel.

GBP is on Avenida 27 de Febrero and is about 5 minutes away. Taxi guys around the big hotels, usually charge more. A chica in the 9th floor lounge can call a taxi for you. She will probably call Apolo Taxi (when the taxi appears he will usually flash a placard with the taxi company name).

If some of my replies contain basic information known to experienced Santo Domingo mongers, is because in the back of my head is that maybe a newbie might be reading the post.

The rooms I stayed in had a minibar (not free, refrigerator stocked with bottled beverages and probably other stuff). Rooms had a small coffee maker and a clock radio with an ipod dock (maybe a connection for other mp3 players). Room service from the hotel's restaurant, reasonable prices. Club Premium has a check in desk with chairs in the 9th floor lounge (you can also check out there).

I was told on the north side of Avenida 27 de Febrero from the Barcelo Hotel (use the pedestrian bridge in the attached photo) there is a pharmacy where Viagra or Cialis can be purchased. Or walk down maximo gomez, about ten minutes, you will pass the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, then you will see a pharmacy on the right (maybe Carol) next door to a Supermercado Nacional. You can buy hot food to go in that supermarket as well as bottles of alcohol (wine, rum, etc). The Universities you will walk past have some attractive women.

Computers with flat screen and internet you can use for free in the 9th floor lounge, free wifi in the room I used on the 9th floor. On the 9th floor near a set of stairs is an ice machine.

Health and Wellness Center says their website, maybe near the pool, maybe massage there. Small gym near the pool.

I see they still give you terry robes to wear. I've still got mine from when I got married there. They gave them to us as a wedding present. Nice robes.

Formerly called the Gran Hotel Lina (many people still refer to the Barceló Santo Domingo Hotel as the Lina). I am sure you had good times there.

Some rooms with balconies. New elevators from Finland (Kone). If someone stays there, some floors may require you to swipe your room key card near the square box, that is above the floor buttons in the elevators (after swiping press the floor button).
