Talked to several near-by buinness owners and nobody has any clue about future plans for that piece of real estate. Maybe, just maybe, there is none.
To make matters worse: D'Latin is about 50% torn-down w roof, interior, and front and back wall gone, but support beams still in place. Wires and everything mangling everywhere. No sign of any further deconstruction activity.
Another half-assed job: the whole section, from former Rumba to the corner of D'Latin. W/ the side-walks still torn up, businesses closed, and the 50% tear-down of an historical landmark (D'Latin, not Hess house)...it looks like a f***ing war zone.
I'm still "Just A Lurker."
The Chinese virus infected the Western world with Chinese-style totalitarian politics. - Gladiator
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. – H. L. Mencken
The end.

Unfortunately, and as predicted previously in this thread.
Also, swung by in Oct for bf. After Frank had already shipped off to the Fatherland.
But his wife was still on-site.
At that time, October, the breakfast was still ok. The kitchen crew was continually lounging in the restaurant area.
Mind you, I don't have a problem w/ kitchen crew taking a break. But having them occupy tables in the restaurant loudly communication their Dominican girlie tales?
" I guess all good things do come to an endSo for 15 years La Costera has been my breakfast spot. A hidden gem in the heart of Sosua - a Cheers of sorts where everyone is always familiar and the food always rocking. Well as some of you may know Franklyn and Amarlylis recently sold the place and went back to Germany With high hopes on this trip I faithfully returned and went the other night for dinner. Aweful!! omfg The sopa de ajo just loaded with salt, it was so bad I couldn't even finish when in the past I could've eaten buckets of the stuff. The tangy salsa on the chicken burger completely different and yuk. Tried to go back this morning for breakfast - that has changed too No more plates and plates of food and I don't know what happened to the home fries but they do not taste the same at all. I think Franklin personally prepared a lot more of the food then people gave him credit for. No familiar faces either in terms of other regulars I normally would see there. Any whoo now I am in a percarious position to seek out a new spot to eat.
Anyone know of any La Costera type little gems in the batey that serve great food for good prices? I am wide open to recommendations because I now feel lost in the world.
PS sorry for the typos - I rushed this post."
Rumor mill says he's got a new place in the works. We'll see
Can someone explain to me why he cant just RE OPEN his Rancho Tipico ??
is the place marked for death, no matter who opens it ?
Did it change hands since he moved on from there ..
I dont get it ( that is a Rhetorical," i dont get it") ..
I am not sure but I would give this explanation:
every place has a license ( with probably an identification number or code) so if the place gets shut down ( Clausurado from the authorities) it will be for as long as they ( whoever shut it down) decide to keep it closed. It does not matter If the place changes hands. The place license got terminated ( temporarily or for good) so it will not be able to open again until the authorities decide to...
again am not 100% sure about it but I think this is the case...

Sometimes we fuck up...and life is so much better that way...
Saw him the other afternoon downtown. Was talking on his phone and in a good mood. Only a quick hello and I was off.
Rancho Tipico was reopened last night under new management. Looks to be locals....bright lights, loud music, and not many customers.
