I mean , if Ad actually is able to keep the original Rancho Tipico open, local expats have two places with the same vibe to choose from ( the other one being City Lights).
I bet Ad will not change the winning formula that got him the success he had with the first Rancho Tipico.
The only down side is that having two places like that during slow season will be difficult, they will either both have enough business to barely survive or one will succeed and the other will die..
Only time will tell.... More options are always a good thing though...
Anybody has any idea of the opening date for this new place?
But I thought there wasn't a slow season for mongers? We travel year round. And he still needs to be careful with all the hired undocumented Haitians.

Mongers or no mongers, there is a slow season in Sosua......for all tourism. Trust me.

Re: 10/2013 - Ad opens Rancho Tipico

    Well put as always Smooth

i to look forward to a place much like the old Rancho Tipico

i was one who was always singing the praises of that place

its different, and gives you somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the strip. A place where you could get a bottle of rum with your favorite mixer and dance the night away to bachata or shake your booty with the
Haitians. Always a good place to find some company for the night as well

also a place to get something good to eat

One does not necessarily need to like Ad but if you can learn how to properly interact with him your problems will be minimal

and he does provide job opportunities for many people who's options are otherwise limited due to their nationality

city lights i think will become much like what rumba was on a more toned down level. Once a new opportunity exists for the haitian girls they wont be hanging out much at city lights anyway.

RT was never a place where mongers made up a % of its customers. In fact, Ad always felt that his local friends would stop coming if RT became just another PC monger bar for drinking, and chica hunting.

One thing to keep in mind: The Attorney General of the country was Francisco Brito. He was the guy that had the hard on for screwing Sosua and cleaning up the sex trade.

He's gone now, and the new guy has a different set of priorities.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see a gradual return to the types of activities that made Sosua and other hot spots famous.

Sosua's activities did not change a bit.. There are just less mongers in town and less mongering places but everything is still out in the open. Yes Brito is no longer in charge, but do you think that places similar to Passion will open again?
I don't see it happening. For this reason I don't see Sosua having so many mongers like before... Unless City Lights turns into a Rumba kind of place, like somebody mentioned, I don't believe both places succeed.
I really hope I am wrong because more people in town would be better for everybody.

Re: 10/2013 - Ad opens Rancho Tipico

I was told by people who keep in touch with Bobby, that he has ZERO intentions of ever coming back to Sosua.. and Rumba is permanently closed , and I believe up for sale ?
I was really hoping he would return , if the Climate changed in Sosua.

My question is , how do some experienced Bar owners refuse to try to re open, even if they were allowed..
(I can assume they got screwed once, and dont feel like going through it again... " fool me once shame on you, fool me twice .. " you know how it goes ).

And then OTOH you have guys like AD, who just keep opening up new Venues all over town.. l

If Passions were to re open, under ANY name , probably never Passions. ( wasnt it Amazon ? or something) That would be the Sign that the Tide truly has turned and things are at least trending back to the way they were .
Although it will never truly be the same, ever again.

And to be quite Honest , the town DOES have a nice overall Vibe to it ...

But then i noticed even more Beggars ... You cant even eat without the beggars hounding you for change ..
And this is like at EVERY restaurant exposed to the street.. its really annoying ..
And the Park by Playa Alicia.. homeless Chica literally sleeping on the bench, and going through Garbage Cans for food..
I had never seen that before in Sosua .. its turning into like a little NYC.

you business owners will have to hang in there a little longer , but much better times are just around the corner..

IMO, it wont be long til COUPLES from all over will be coming to enjoy the nice beaches ( Main beach and Alicia) , and hopefully they can co exist with the Monger who will be leftover but more discreet.
Sosua could be an Awesome town.
but yeagh the Frat Party Atmosphere is GONE forever .. I highly doubt a place like D'Latin will be welcome again on the Strip..

    sorry for the ramble.

That homeless chica has been around for quite a while. 3yrs? She gave me some money once to buy her some crackers and tampons at the little playero. Hahahah no shit. Of course i bought the wrong kind for her and she asked me to go back and exchange, which I did. The strange things that happen in Sosua!

I've always looked at it as some Bar owners not being able to return home for one reason or another. So in a sense, they have no choice but to continue trying.

Without dominican ownership it seems they will make it nearly impossible for a foreign bar owner to succeed long term

armando must have some real power to keep it going as long as he has but he likely has taken care of the right people

Not so easy for him either. He can't even leave and return to the country without a big circus and of course payments.

I'm just saying there must be other reasons why they continue to endure the harassment, humiliation, failure and disrespect. It's just not my idea of semi-retirement.

    I dont get it either

Your right its been tough for armsndo to but they have not shut him down yet

i think ad does it because he needs to in order to survive

seems like the bar business is the most difficult for a foreigner to keep going long term. But even Willie with all his apparent connections couldn't keep Dlatin going

sosua could continue to thrive but seems like they think all they want is change and not to be the dirty little secret in the country

been said before but i dont think they can get enough non monger type tourists there for most places to survive long term
