I'm still "Just A Lurker."
The Chinese virus infected the Western world with Chinese-style totalitarian politics. - Gladiator
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. – H. L. Mencken
You are right yayow. As one of the "others", I accompanied a bartender from Merengue to After 1 as Merengue was closing. She asked me to follow her and we were let in by security and I sat there while she set up the bar and serving station, prepping for the after hours crowd that would make the nightly pilgrimage down Pedro to continue the party.
Several of her co-workers from Merengue/Classicos arrived a bit after her and continued on with their duties at After 1 until 4 or 5 am.
As I said before, if this thing takes off as planned, those motoconcho drivers are going to make some bank on a nightly basis.

City Lights now offers pizzas
Starting next Friday, August 26 at City Lights, the kitchen will be expanded with a pizzeria. There is an original pizza oven fired with special aromatic wood installed. Between 5 and 8 PM, they offer 2 pizzas of your choice for the price of one pizza.
City Lights now offers pizzas
Prices for a pizza range from 250 to 400 pesos. The following week the menu will be expanded with dishes like spaghetti, steak, spareribs, half roasted chicken, of course, accompanied by French fries and salad.
Bar / disco and restaurant City Lights is already a big success. It is fairly busy every night with highlights on the weekend. On Friday and Saturday nights the bar and disco is only allowed open until 2 am. But City Lights is packed with partying guests especially in the weekends. We have not forgotten Rancho Típico, but City Lights is fortunately a good alternative
I am the pussy licker Let's have some fun. Not invisible. Snitches are pathetic little people!

Last time I spoke with him which was right before they opened he said they would start with pizza and add some other items later.
He had all he could do to get the place ready to open.
Before RT closed he was serving some pretty good food so I hope they bring some of it back again
Up until his closure last October(?), I heard and experienced nothing but great dishes at Rancho. He reopened shortly before my return here and I hadn't frequented there for dinner much (for obvious reasons). I can say that many loyal clientele started giving varying reviews (several negative) that seemed dependent on who was working the kitchen. He went through a few different cooks from the end of last year through the most recent closure. I know several that moved on to different dining choices in the evening.
Personally, the couple times I ate there in the last months were good. Hopefully he's got it all straightened out at CL. I'm ready for another great steak meal locally.
This is sort of a WAY, WAY aside.
For those of you have frequented "La Costera."
Probably the only venue run in Sosua by a trained chef. Rather than auto-mechanic turned cook.
Things and ownership are going to change within four weeks. For health reasons.
P.S.: Extremely saddened by this development. The menu you could buy for $10 at La Costera would run you $75 at any NY joint.
Suffice it to say that in years by-gone, he spent his summers catering to Wall Street or oil camps in the remote of Canada.
He is a chef at heart. The way he presents his food is second to none in Sosua.
A few more tidbits for those interested.
Chef Frank is leaving for Germany to undergo needed medical treatment, and does not expect to return;
In the meantime his wife and aides will continue to run the restaurant w/ the same menu;
Ultimately his wife and kid will join him in Germany, and a long-time (7 yrs) dominican aid who is familiar w/ the menu might take over full ownership.
I sincerely doubt that the standards will remain as high w/ Frank not being around. Or, no way in hell, under a dominican owner.
P.S.: Rice, beans, and chicken might be in La Costera's future. Another comedor.
Best of luck to Frank as he deals with his medical issues!! His style and presentation will be missed. I have enjoyed many delicious meals there over the years.

Sometimes we fuck up...and life is so much better that way...
Well I guess this place lasted a little longer than I thought.
Another detour/ side track.
Seems they are completely tearing down D'Latins. Not re-modeling, not improving.
Just tearing it down. One can actually see the former Hess house again.
Anybody knows what's going on?
