    05/2014 - March 2014

Exited around 3AM for the drive to Westchester County, N.Y. and then Westchester County Airport (HPN) for a jetBlue flight to SDQ (Santo Domingo) with a stop in Orlando, Florida (MCO). At HPN (small airport), jetBlue had one counter with two workers, small group of people in front of me on line, seems some were maybe high school baseball players traveling to Florida and other people heading to Florida. Flight time to Orlando was about 2:40. About a three hour layover in Orlando (the original reservation I had was to fly into Ft. Lauderdale with a longer layover, but jetBlue changed the flight to Orlando with a shorter layover). At MCO had two glasses of red wine at Cibao Express and then had garlic knots and pizza at Famous Famiglia Pizza.

Sat next to a guy who works with surgeons in the DR, he was born in Santo Domingo, while his father was a diplomat there from a European country. Nice older guy, we chatted, he stays at the El Embajador Hotel and won't drive in the DR.

At SDQ bought a $12US bottle of wine at duty free, with a twist off top (I had forgotten to bring a corkscrew). Then stopped at Alamo/National. I made the reservations at least 24 hours before arrival, online, used a coupon from American Casino Guide, Alamo insiders also get 5% off (free to join). Then took the escalator up to the second floor, changed money at the BanReservas money exchange booth (42.xx exchange rate). Then walked over to the cigar store, bought a robusto size E.P. Carrillo Dominican made cigar and ordered an Illy coffee. Two cute chicas from Boca Chica work at the cigar store.

After the cigar and coffee, took the escalator down, exited the airport building and went to the rental car parking lot, which is across the street adjacent to the airport parking lot. Said hello to the guys I know there (I couldn't find the rental paperwork that was given to me 15 minutes earlier, no problem, I called a chica at the cigar store and asked if I had left them there and she said no). Blue Nissan Versa with about 10k miles on the odometer. Exited the airport after 3PM.

Drove to Boca Chica to visit Senior Tranquilos, his gate facing Calle Duarte was down at that time, so I thought he wasn't open at that time (I was later told that the beach side was open). Drove along Duarte lots of people walking around, cuties, made a right maybe at the Church, then the next right and eventually drove past the hot food stalls and saw one chica with a nice body in a bikini getting food there. Got a call from an ISOC member who was in Santo Domingo and I told him I would be in the capital in about thirty minutes.

Drove to the street where the rental apartment was located in La Esperilla, Santo Domingo (near Ave. Maximo Gomez and UNAPEC University). First time staying there so I had to find the building. Sent a message to the owner using whatsapp (no wifi, works with the Claro sim card I had in an unlocked Nokia E71). Owner was in front of the building in a few minutes, I had paid online with a credit card for the first few nights, with AIRBNB.COM, $50US per night, included everything. Was given two keys (one for the outside gate and one for the apartment) and a fob with three buttons that open the electric sliding gate for the building's parking, plenty of space in the parking area. Maybe guys from Haiti work at the building, they were nice, said hello to them in Kreyol. Nice apartment, one bedroom, A/C (never used it, lots of windows and a breeze), new coffee maker and packets of coffee, bottles of water and beer, chips and cookies. New utensils and linens from IKEA, new flat screen TV and WIFI. Owner said no problem for me to smoke cigars (I smoked at a table near an open window).

Invited some chica I had in whatsapp for a drink (from badoo or tagged). She arrived around 8PM with a cousin. I said I wanted to go to Fuente Cigar Lounge, she said she knew of a cigar lounge on Ave. 27 de Febrero. I entered 27 de Febrero at Ave. Tiradentes and drove west to almost Plaza de Banderas, no traffic. Didn't see the cigar lounge she knew. I made a right on the street where Penthouse was/is located (just before plaza de banderas, north of 27 de febrero) and pulled into the parking area for the building, Penthouse is on the roof of a 3 or 4 story building (only other time I visited I walked stairs to the roof). I asked the chicas if they wanted to visit a casa de citas, they were like what for (if I knew for sure Penthouse was open, I would have visited then with them). Then drove Fuente Cigar Lounge.

A few glasses of wine at Fuente and a cigar (they smoked a bit of my cigar). After Fuente went to D'Luis Parrillada for some food, then Lulu in Zona Colonial for some drinks and a E.P Carrillo cigar, purchased at LuLu. Then to Pure in the Hotel Sheraton. They wanted some shots of tequila, no problem. They took off their shoes, dancing, grinding, one gave a nice lapdance. After Pure, at around 3AM, they said they wanted a pool. Eventually we decided a cabana with a jacuzzi and wound up at costa azul. Both got naked for the jacuzzi, ordered some food, watched porno from the jacuzzi, etc. Eventually dropped them off at Agora Mall at around 7AM. I drove east on Ave. Kennedy after dropping them off, sun rises in the east, no sunglasses in the car yet, I was driving slow, light changed to red as I entered an intersection, AMET guy there radioed other AMET guys on the far corner and I was motioned to pull over, they said I went through the light. Young AMET guy was nice, his supervisor was there and had to give me a ticket. He rode in the back seat while I drove to a parking lot on Ave. Independencia at Avenida Maximo Gomez (adjacent to an Alamo/National rental office). Parked the car there and given the ticket and was told I could pay at BanReservas Bank about a 30 second walk from the lot (on Ave. Maximo Gomez). It was around 7:15AM, the bank opened at 8AM. Dozed off a few times while sitting in front of the bank with other people around me who were also waiting for the bank to open. Eventually paid the fine (about 1000 pesos) cute and friendly teller at the bank. Guy sits outside the AMET parking lot where the rental was, with a small copy machine, paid him to make copies (AMET wants copies). Got back to the rental, was now blocked in a bit but managed to get to the exit, drove to the apartment went to sleep.

The Fuentes cigar shop is before Tiradentes on 27 Feb. There's also a cigar shop on Ortega y Gasset a block or two up from 27 Feb., and there's another a few blocks from 27 Feb on Dr Defillo which you've probably driven past dozens of times.

    Day 2

Was supposed to go to the beach with a tall flaca with a nice rack at 12PM on Day 2. I woke up after 12:30PM, sent her a message, but she was already on her way home. Sent a message to another chica in whatsapp (from Badoo or Tagged), she visited about an hour later. While waiting for her chatted with another flaca on whatsapp, I told her I would see her later in the day (unbeknownst to me she decided to take taxi and head over to the apartment, about an hour and half after I spoke to her). The other chica arrived, attractive, nothing happened, drove to her Ave. Maximo Gomez and she exited the car near the McDonalds. At about this time the cell phone kept ringing. Mary2 for example was the number coming up, Mary1 was the one I said I would see later in the day. I ignored the calls. Drove over to where a fellow monger was staying (he is a member of the ISOC) and we drove to Zona Colonial and walked around there for over an hour. Visited the cigar shop at El Conde and Hostos, bought a store made cigar there for 200 pesos. Visited Plaza Espana and the BanReservas museum. Showed him casa del sol hotel, villa colonial hotel and hodelpa caribe colonial hotel. Very nice guy, kept offering to buy me a drink, which I took him up on, when we drove to Barra Payan, a papaya smoothie with Nestle milk. I drove to Barcelo Santo Domingo Hotel, showed him the 9th floor lounge with jacuzzi, the swimming pool on the ground floor, cigar lounge and shop there, and then showed him the apartment. Eventually drove him back to his hotel where he was meeting up with his GF.

Eventually found out that Mary1 was Mary2 using her other cell phone, she waited about an hour outside the building in the taxi, then returned home. I said I was sorry. Next time I saw her a day or so later, she came with an older cousin and her sister and we met at Agora Mall. Later that night a long time amiga visited and slept over.

Didn't happen, sexo oral from both of them in the jacuzzi. I was too bushed to hammer them in bed and getting cold Presidente beer poured over my head and body while laying in the bed, didn't help, lol.

    AirBnB $50US per night apartment

Colmado (small grocery store) 1/4 of a block away. Barcelo Santo Domingo Hotel about three blocks away (use of their pool and gym available to anyone for $15US per day). The colmado also offered free delivery, and was part of Plaza Esperilla where some University Students hung out in the evenings. Courtyard by Marriott Hotel about 3 blocks away, Supermercado Nacional, Carol Pharmacy, UTESA University about 4 blocks away. Chica friendly. A clothes washing machine in the kitchen and a medium size refrigerator. A/C unit in the living-room.

Now you know! Add them in your contact list, and whatsapp will pull them over. Start chatting!

Send voice messages, videos, photos, instantaneously in whatsapp (with a wifi connection, they get sent quicker), whatsapp gives a choice of which type of connection is primary, wifi or through the cell company connection. Each person in whatsapp adds their photo, you can have an idea who you are chatting with (some people put other images). Facebook recently bought whatsapp for billions.

What do you have to do to set up whatsapp? Let's say I usually in DR with a regular laptop and cheapy cheapy non-smart cell phone with a local number. What is a simple cheap process flow to set it up without buying a $700 gadget?

Good android cell phones, unlocked, GSM, that take SIM cards can be purchased brand new online at amazon or other stores, for around $100US or less (4 inch or larger touch screens. HTC, Huawei and other brands). Guys buy cell phones on EBAY and are happy. If you have a cheapy cell that you can download applications to, then you should be able to download and use whatsapp. After installing whatsapp it will ask you for the cell number of the phone and will then send a text message, if the text message fails, you can opt to have whatsapp send an automated phone call to the cell, and I believe maybe you will hear a 3-4 digit number code, that you will then maybe have to add to box in the installation process. All of the cell phone's contacts will be shown in the whatsapp contact list and those with whatsapp will have their whatsapp photo or image (and some customize their profile message).

After install, you will see a message that you have 12 months of free whatsapp, after that it is 99 cents.

From what I have read only works on cell phones.

SIM card for Claro in the DR is about 160 pesos (about $3.80US). Before a trip you can add contacts to an unlocked cell phone, when you get to the DR, buy a SIM card (or reinstall a previously used DR SIM card), after putting the SIM card into the cell in the DR, whatsapp will probably sent a text message to cell, thereafter you can start chatting. If the cell has wifi ability and you are close to wifi, in options in whatsapp, you can choose to have wifi primary, cellular secondary.

Works with windows operating cell phones, apple, android and others.

I wouldn't buy a verizon branded cell phone for use in the DR with DR cell companies. Verizon in the past used cell phones that use CDMA with cell phones that didn't use sim cards. They can be unlocked and used in the DR, but it is just easier to buy a GSM unlocked cell phone that takes sim cards (ATT uses GSM and most if not all their cell phones use sim cards, an ATT brand cell will have to be unlocked for use outside the U.S., ATT will supposedly supply unlock codes or buy an ATT or other GSM, sim card cell, that has already been unlocked).

On older cell phones that don't have much ram memory, whatsapp might lag or freeze up.

If you want to try out an unlocked cell phone before traveling to the DR (and don't have a sim card). You could buy an ATT prepaid cell (pay as you go) phone at walmart, prices starting at $11US, in the package will probably be an ATT Sim card. Install that sim card in the unlocked cell you want to try out (various ATT prepaid plans, if you want try out the cell without wifi, then you might have to choose a data prepaid plan). If you are using wifi, after setting up the new ATT sim card, connect to wifi, install whatsapp and begin chatting with contacts.

When you get to the DR, swap out the ATT sim card for a DR cell phone company sim card and start chatting in whatsapp (you can use the same photo you used previously, will help your DR contacts recognize you and your new DR cell number). You'll probably get "Quien eres?" (who are you? when you start using a new number).

In whatsapp you can copy and paste a message to any and all contacts. Como estas amor? (how are you?) Soy so and so. (I am Mr. so and so). Estoy aca en Republica Dominicana (I am here in the DR). Quiero verte amor. (I want to see you).

    Change Sim Card

There are cell phones that hold two sim cards (a person could have two different phone numbers from two different companies, functioning at the same time, on the same cell).

Some newer cell phones use micro sim or nano sim (a regular size sim card can be cut to fit those cell phones). Seems most cell phones take the regular size sim card. http://smartphones.wonderhowto.com/h...-size-0149154/

    sim cards

What I previously referred to as a regular sim card is technically called a mini-sim. You can buy a cutter that will cut the mini to micro or nano, and there are adapters so that you can use the macro size or nano size sim in a cell that takes mini size sim cards.

Unlocked Motorola for $87US on Amazon; http://www.amazon.com/Unlocked-Motor.../ref=de_a_smtd

From GSM Arena the specs; http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_xt760-4820.php

It uses a mini sim (what I called regular size), has 768 MB of RAM memory, which should be fine to run Whatsapp without problems (assuming there are not a lot of other applications running at the same time).

Nokia I use has 128 MB of RAM and whatsapp functions (occasionally a low memory message appears), having a RAM amount greater than 128 MB is better.

For Apple cell phones you'll need to insert a paper clip (or a tool that has a long narrow point), to get the sim to come out.

Probably some cell companies sell all three sizes at the same time, when you buy a new sim.
