05/2019 - The backpack that you can lock valuables in?

Does anyone have a link to that backpack or bag that guys use to lock their valuables in ? I read on another board that within the last 2 months that Terra Linda had a big break in. 8 rooms were broken into and the safes were ripped off the wall, The guests lost a lot of money and the fucking owner didnt give two shits! They said the owner wasnt compensating anyone because he couldnt prove that it was an intruder and suggested that maybe a fellow guest broke into the rooms.

I dont trust those safes at all and having a bag that I can chain to a desk and not have to worry about them cutting intot it to steal my money will give me peace of mind.

Another option is hiding it in plain view.

Plenty of diversion safes out there including some dirty underwear.

You could also bring a screwdriver and find something to take apart to hide your money. Back in the day I loved old tube TVs to hide stuff in.

I'll second that. I have one of their carry-on backpacks; it's well made, with a steel-mesh lining and poke-proof, locking zippers. The only problem I have with it is that it's not as roomy as my Rick Steves carry-on bag. They also make some "portable safe" bags with a locking, steel-cable drawstring that's long enough to wrap around a pipe or stanchion; these come in sizes large enough to hold a large notebook computer, and they're obviously sturdier and more theft-resistant than the backpack. (But they're also more obvious.)

Those diversion safe like the shaving cream, aerosol sprays etc., would probably be a bad idea in Sosua knowing that a lot of the thieving Chicas mostly steal stuff like that on a regular basis.

On my last trip to Sosua last December, I had an Axe body spray gone missing.

The safes were ripped off - so will any backpack or anything in the room.

File a report with police, then claim hotel burglary insurance (usually up to $2K, $500 max per item group) through your credit card. Cash is not covered.

Hiding rolled wads inside a stainless wardrobe rod is an old case officer trick

This is enough to dissuade me from returning to Sosua, or indeed, the DR.

Did any of the room safes have passports stolen as well? If so, the Police as well as the Embassy would have had to be contacted.

Nope, no passports taken but i think about 8-9 grand in cash was stolen in total. It looked like someone took a baseball bat to the safes and crushed them in. The worst part was the owner's indifference to the crime. From time to time, I have heard rumors about how he treats people of color but this isthe first time I heard about a mass break in at his hotel.

Imo your not gonna have mass destruction to several room safes without someone on the inside providing access to those rooms

Suspect the owner is well aware of who might be responsible

It wouldn’t stop me from going to sosua but it would stop me from staying at that hotel

I have been going to sosua long enough that i don’t really worry to much about the girls stealing from me since I already know most of the ones I spend time with

But your right those girls will steal anything if you make it available for them to take

Re: 05/2019 - The backpack that you can lock valuables in?

I bought one of the cabled pac safes to use when i went to coron because i knew in advance my hotel did not have a safe

What i did was put my most important stuff in the pac safe than secured it through the metal bars inside the suitcase

Than i locked the suitcase and cabled that to a bar in my closet

If someone really wants it they will get it regardless but i felt like that was enough of a deterrent that it would be a problem for them to get it

They also make some pretty good hidden cameras that record motion these days to

I had a safe in my house a while back and the battery died and I couldn't get it open lol.

If you really want to get it open, its not that hard if noise isnt an issue. It was a lot easier than I thought and thought about becoming a safe cracker but some people have issues with it, like the cops
