11/2016 - Hotel Las Palmeras (Formally Don Antonio)

The old Hotel Don Antonio changed names a year or so ago to Hotel Las Palmeras. There was remodeling going on when I stayed there in 2014 and still working on stuff when I visited in Dec 2015. Obe is still the manager so that is a big positive. The restaurant changed hands and now is run by an American from Boston named Matt. Same chef, Noel. Matt is much more of a sports fan than the previous owner, Alan.

Current room rates are listed at $40-$47/night.

Has anyone stayed there lately? Always one of my favorite places to stay in Sosua.

If staying in Sosua, always my first choice, perfect location, half a block from the main action, pool, decent resturant, nice rooms with a/c at a decent price. Plus Obie a true gentleman that has been there forever. What more do you need?

    T
They have WiFi. Works better in the balconies than the rooms. More like a queen size bed if I remember correctly.

    Ican
I cant recall king size beds =... maybe queen or standard size
wifi was spotty inside the room but good outside...
    but this was late 2015

some other notes from my TR:
"With that said, I consider Las Palmeras to me would be a 2.7 star hotel, but it gets points for location, location location.
    > The furniture is basic and dated
    > The bathroom is cleaner than most other places (and I get really disturbed with bathrooms)
    > The tv / fridge are basic but acceptable
< The wifi is ok in the room but you need to be closer to the door (western side since im in the eastern most building)
    > Wifi is really good at the bar area.
< The noise is noticeable but acceptable if you don't mind hearing music and motoconchos. But I tend to go to bed late here, so by then it gets quiet again
{} Laundry costs 25 pesos per article (shirt or pants) but underwear and socks are not counted as articles for pricing"

I like just about everything about this hotel except the wifi is bad... I always have to just about walk outside my door to catch the wifi signal. Gets a little frustrating. But all else is great, especially for there price. You are basically at ground zero. Also a big plus is the manager is very cool and will help with whatever you need. He never even asked for the money for room. I had to go to him to pay when I was ready.

The owner of the restaurant attached "Midtown Sosua Bar and Restaurant" Also seems like a great guy.
Which isnt hard to believe when you realize hes from my neck of the woods,,,,,

And he's an even bigger Patriots fanatic then me,,,,,

Yeah,,, when I first received his friend request on my Dominican Facebook, I was like who is this guy ,,,,???

Then when I looked at his pics,,,which is basically His Restaurant/Bar ,,and New England Patriots stuff ,,,,

I added it up in my head ,,,,,,,

Tgunz had recently been in Sosua and had mentioned meeting a real cool guy that owned the restaurant at the Las Palmeras,,,
and that he was from the Boston area,,,,,

Then it hit me that I met this guy a few times down the beach about 4 years ago,,,,,,

I wished him the best of luck,,,,and told him I'd stop in the next time I'm in town,,,,,
