    Dominican Slang

One of my ex barrio chics was looking to get paid

    photo.jpg

So she says she wants to see me and I respond "estoy en olla"

    Screenshot_20180512-155024.png

I recently discovered that "estoy en olla" is Dominican slang for "I am broke" and what was her response?????????

    She calls me a liar...why can't I be broke?....haaaaaaaaaaaa!

    Friends Place, Cabarette

One of my favorite restaurants in Cabarette is Friends Place on Calle Principal in the center of town.

    1.jpg2.jpg

The best thing I like about the restaurant is the bakery, they have American favorites such as carrot cake, muffins and an assortment of cookies

    3.jpg4.jpg

Their carrot cake is the best but this time I had a raisin pastry which looked better than it tasted but it was ok.

    5.jpg

I met a chic on Cupid from Cabarette so I figured Friends Place would be a good first date. I had a mero and she had a pasta dish

    6.jpg

We had a good conversation it turned out to be a decent date. I was surprised she really did not want to eat and she only ate a small portion of her food. Both plates and dessert cost about 800 pesos, there are other restaurants when I have paid twice and even 3 times as much; it was definitely a good value.

    7.jpg8.jpg

It is an open air restaurant, even when it's hot outside it is very comfortable because there is a lot of shade. The staff is always great and every time I have eaten there I have been satisfied.

Friends place makes a good place for conversation with a few beverages or for breakfast lunch or dinner I will definitely be back when I return to Cabarette.

Right but what you are taking about is a credit for taxes paid on foreign income. I don't believe you are paying any income taxes in the DR so there is nothing for you to get a credit on.

What Mr. Happy is talking about is different because I believe he is actually earning an income there.
That allows you to exclude earned income from US income but you must meet a 330 day physical presence test before you qualify.
The amount you can exclude increases each year for inflation and is up to $102,100 for 2017

The foreign tax credit and the foreign earned income exclusion are 2 very different things

    Personal anecdote

I live in a second floor apartment that has screened and gated windows. For 2 days I would wake up in he morning go in my kitchen and find the trash I put in a large plastic bag thrown all over the kitchen and hallway. I checked the doors and windows in the kitchen and living room no holes no nothing.

I could not figure out for the life of me the point of ingress for whatever was entering my apartment. I do not believe in ghost so there had to be an explanation. I happened to be in the bathroom and WHAH LAH

The only window in my apartment that does not have a screen and has been left open at night is in the bathroom. I regularly hear cats whining at night. My only explanation is a cat or cats climbed up to my second floor window made ingress through the bathroom window walked through my bedroom into the kitchen and went through my trash looking for food.

They made their escape the same way they came in undetected...sneaky cats!

I closed the window and guess what????????? ...no hay problemas!

It looks like I have solved the cat caper ...haaaaaaaaa!

    Jet Pack, Puerto Plata

I have not had much need to receive mail in the Dominican Republic but recently I wanted to order some items on line and have them shipped to me so I signed up at Jet Pack

    20180517_125855.jpg

Jet Pack is a courier just like Fed Ex or UPS in the United States their office is quite simple

    20180517_125701.jpg20180517_125706.jpg

Basically you go into the office and sign up; they e-mail you a Florida PO Box as a mailing address. You can receive items shipped to this address and later it is shipped to the Dominican Republic. You get two e-mails one when it arrives in Florida and one when it arrives in the Dominican Republic. When your item arrives in the Dominican Republic you retrieve it and pay a fee based on the weight and size of the item shipped.

***It should be noted some companies will not ship to the Dominican Republic and this is stated on the web site however this is NOT a problem because they are not shipping to the Dominican Republic they are shipping to the Jet Pack office in Florida and Jet Pack is shipping to the Dominican Republic.

The only problem I had was the store hours which are Monday-Friday 8am-6pm. Saturday 8am-12pm, I went one Saturday in the early afternoon and the office had already closed and there was no sign on the window stating the schedule. Sundays they are closed.

I received 2 items in last than two weeks from the time I ordered them and I am satisfied with the service so far.

Playa Dorada public beach, Puerto Plata

Shout out to PSRiches for introducing me to Playa Dorada public beach, I knew about the private beach for the various resorts on Playa Dorada but I did not know about the public beach.

    1.jpg2.jpg

There is a gift shop and restaurant

    4.jpg5.jpg

The restaurant had the typical seafood dishes averaging around 600 pesos. I had the fried fish which was a little salty but pretty good.

    6.jpg

I rented a canopy for 600 pesos it was comfortable and shaded. The best thing I liked was the position I could feel the breeze of the beach.

7a.jpg The beach and the water were clean

    8.jpg9.jpg10.jpg

I had a date a barrio chic I met a couple of years ago she was a dud but I definitely enjoyed the beach. I felt relaxed I loved the breeze there were no beggars and the food was decent.

There are a few other Puerto Plata beaches I want to visit but I will definitely return.

La Playa Long Beach, Puerto Plata

I had a date from Santo Domingo so I decided to try another Puerto Plata beach and this time I tried La Playa Long Beach which is at the east end of the Malecon.

    a.jpgb.jpgd.jpg

I rented 2 chairs and an umbrella IDR exactly I think it was around 500 pesos.

    e.jpg

The restaurant is one of the cassetas on the Malecon and the food was definitely nothing to brag about. The fish wasn't seasoned well and I didn't care for the texture, my date made the same comment. One good thing was the frozen lemonade was absolutely DELICIOUS!

    f.jpgg.jpg

This date was 10 times better than the last but the beach part was nothing to brag about. There was a foul odor coming from the water and the food was not up to par. It was good to experience a different beach however I would not return to this one.

La Playa Costumbar, Costumbar - Puerto Plata

I decided to another beach date this time I went to Costumbar beach. Costumbar is a residential section on the west side of Puerto Plata where the infamous Black Beards hotel is.

    pl1.jpgpl2.jpgpl4.jpg
It was a very hot day in Puerto Plata but as usual the beach was had a very comfortable breeze.

    pl5.jpgpl6.jpgpl6a.jpg
I had the fried fish which was decent. I rented 2 chairs under the shade for 300 pesos which were very comfortable.

    pl7.jpg
The date was decent it was a young barrio chic that spent of her time on the phone but what can I expect from a post millennial? For me the best time to arrive at the beach is in the morning before the crowd arrives and there is plenty of seating.

I enjoyed the beach and would definitely return.

There's been a fair amount of incredibly good looking girls in Blackbeards over the years. Hard to go wrong there.

    Blackbeards Restaurant

The food is good and menu includes the typical American items for breakfast luch and dinner along with some comida tipica

    20180620_163911.jpg20180613_170828.jpg

The experience puts me in the mind of Pica Flor but the chics are not as pretty and less expensive and the food comes from the kitchen faster.

The chics are generally friendly. In my case I can do in house ST for 2100 to the chica and 1000 pesos for the room which in my case is doable. Of course you can get numbers and try to work a deal outside Blackbeards.

I enjoyed my dinners and I will probably be back not just for dinner but and occasional desert with one of the chicas.
