07/2019 - Sosua update, I am a Newbi but not New to the Game

I was looking for some good information.. By the way this Forum is the coolest thing since AC. Looks like I found the right spot.
So here we go...A very good 55 year old friend of mine wife won't have sex with him anymore, so he called me and asked if I would take him on one of my special 'fishing' trips.
I said no problem and started doing some research..Looks like the DR is the best place for numerous catch and releases!!
We are coming down (yes these times suck don't ask why) landing in Santiago Airport (STI) super late around 1:59 am local.. I figured that was a little late to be traveling to Sousa via a rent car where we hope to spend 6 days or so.. Was wondering you guys thoughts on staying in Santiago for one night (and where) versus driving that night to Sousa? Also, I needed to start my guy off right when we land...
Finally I read that it would definitely been in my best interest to access the Trip Reports from the DR?

Re: I am a Newbi but not New to the Game

You might as well spend the night in Santiago.

    For a couple reasons

    1. Arriving at 2am you won't be on the road much before 3am at the earliest which means you won't hit Sosua until 4:30 or 5:00am and not much activity going on at that hour other than maybe the casino.

    2. Driving in the DR at night is not recommended even for the seasoned traveler so not a good idea for someone to attempt that has never been here before. The DR is not Kansas.

Get yourself a subscription and do some reading and I think that will help you out alot.

Maybe skip the car rental all together. Take the bus, it's nice....and you don't have to worry about the driving. It's definitely a different experience driving down there. After you get to Sosua, you won't need a car. Everything is within walking distance. And plenty of ways to get around, if you choose to leave the town (which I doubt you will).

Read up on Boca Chica as well. Some of us only go there and others go to both sides.

Sometimes I would stay in a Cabana.

There were clubs open to 4am but its been 13 years since I been there.

Re: 07/2019 - I am a Newbi but not New to the Game

Thanks DR.. I appreciate your recommendations. I have been going through TR relentlessly and would like yours and all others feedback/recommendations if possible. I do apologize because with all the questions you can tell obviously this is my first trip here..

(Again the Friend I am bringing does not have money problems).
    1. If I arrive in Santiago at 2am.. Could I catch a taxi or bus to Sousa at this time? (Just feel like I am loosing a day if i stay in Santiago)
If not or bad idea where do you guys recommend I stay in Santiago?
I have heard Hotel Los Jardines is a good choice?

    2. Also what are the hotel recommendations for Sousa? I have read the following: (This should show that I have been digging in the forum with gloves off):
    A. Alicia Beach Hotel
    B. Sousa Inn
    C. Some Kind of Villa (can't remember the name)
    D. Casa Marina Beech and Reef Resort
    E. Black Beards for a Day or So? (Get my older friends confidence up first)
    F. Any Other I have overlooked?

    3. If taking a iPhone is a bad idea what do I do for one down there? Of do I just take Ipad with me and keep locked in room?

    4. Jimmy mentioned Boca Chica..Should I just scrap Sousa all together and head south instead of North?

If money is no issue, grab a txi to Boca and check into the Garant. Its a smaller town and you will know it in a few days.

You want the security of the hotel where they will check Ids. With a Villa, bad elements can find a way into a rookie's Villa.
