06/2018 - Casa Valeria - Que te Pasa?

Heading back to the Su soon for the 1st time in a few years & checked out some recommended hotel options. Much to my surprise, CV has apparently switched up:

    - A few years ago

CV: This price is including all taxes and fees, so no hidden surprices.
CV: taxes is included in this price.
    - Now

CV: the price... is without the 18% tax
Wow, so has monger tourism slowed down so much that some of the hotels have gotten this thirsty?!? And I find this especially ridiculous given that their rates are already significantly higher than many of their competitors, SMGDH...

Your post is not clear because you do not state the bottom line (which is all we need worry about) then (when?) and now. Are you saying the price has gone up by 18% in a few years? Depending on how many years, that might not be unreasonable. The cost of living in the DR has gone up by about that much during that period.

For example, if "a few years" means "five years":

Five years ago the dollar exchange rate was about 41.2 as against 49.5 now. In that case, their price has actually gone down a little in real terms.

Often it depends on where you book with them.
If you use places like Hotels.com or you use a credit card you will almost always have to pay the tax

Often if you book direct with them they will give you a little better price and if you pay in cash the price is often better as well

Casa Valeria that you remember from the past is much different now as they have totally rebuilt the place so they no doubt are going to be more expensive now.

Re: 06/2018 - Casa Valeria - Que te Pasa?

Just to clarify a few points:

    • The issue I was pointing out is that the last time I was in town (early 2016), CV stated that all taxes were included in their prices, which were also higher than most of the competition back then.
    • In fact, I've been traveling to Sosua since the early aughts & I can't remember another hotel in town tacking on taxes on top of the room rate.
    • In terms of how I attempted to book, as I always do w/ Sosua hotels, I emailed the hotel directly w/ the intention of paying in cash. This is why I was shocked when the manager completely changed the story on the taxes after a lil over 2 years!
    • As far as whatever renovations they've done, if that's happened in the last 2 years that's fine & I do see that their website rates are a bit higher than before. But again, my point is that all of a sudden they're now passing the 18% on to guests when they previously didn't.

Needless to say, I went ahead & booked elsewhere. And FTR, none of the other places I contacted for this trip said that taxes had to be added to their website prices...

Let me know if youd rather have a nice 2bedroom apartment instead ,,,for roughly the same amount of money your spending on a little hotel room,,,,,,

    Coach,,,
If your coming from sosua abajo,,,,
You would take your 1st right after the Playero and Police station,,,,,.towards Hispanola,,..

Youd go by the Funeral home on left,,,,,

As well as the Tropix Hotel also on left,,,,

And then it would be on the right,,, about 200 feet up from Tropix,,,.....

If you see the entrance to Hispanola on your left,,

    Than you went by it,,,,...

Pretty sure he only uses Trip Advisor to advertise,,,,,
    He offers the whole place,,
Or Wendys poolhouse(In my fotos) for $85-90 a night.
Then offers Apartment Wendy,,at same price,,,,,
    Both 2 bedrooms,,,,

However,,,,,he told me if I knew anyone interested,,,,,
He would lower that to $75 a night,,,,,.

Its a great location,,,,spacious,,,,and a quick walk to the strip,,,,,playero,,etc,,,,

And not much more than paying for a cubicle of a hotel room.

You would have been very close to it as it is just up the road a little bit

Nice place with pretty good food and a great view of Sosua

One of the best, some would say THE best restaurant in Sosua but fatten up your wallet before you go. My buddy and I split the tomahawk steak and we barely finished it,it was 7 pounds prior to cooking. with tax it was close to 6000 pesos just for the steak.

I didn't go for that menu selection but have eaten there a couple of times and it was really good

As I remember it was cheaper than Bailey's and way better service.

Thought they had a pretty good selection of food there as well

Remember to add 28% tax and service fee on to those prices. I can't comment on the current state of Bailey's because I haven't eaten there in a while,I think their food sucks balls.
