I recently did a one night stay at the Barcelona Hotel in downtown Santo Domingo. This is definitely a first rate hotel!1.jpg2.jpg

There is a cigar bar and gift shop in the lobby also

Room and mini-bar

My room was very spacious with an xtra large king size bed I have never seen a bed that large. The room was very comfortable. I didn't use the WIFI because I have a hotspot but WIFI is available.

Restaurants

The hotel has 3 restaurants. Actually 2 restaurants and a snack bar on the top floor. First is the Japanese restaurant Kyoto. I did not try it because I do not care for Asian cuisine.

I had salmon and vegetables for dinner and my date did not have dinner she only ate cheese cake. My bill was 1000 pesos which was reasonable and the menus included all the typical items you could expect. The average plate was between 300-700 pesos.

Make sure you include breakfast in your reservation because if you don't it is an extra $18.00 yes $18.00. If it's included in your reservation the breakfast is free. You room is charged so you do not have to pay anything at the restaurant.

Conclusion

I booked for 2 and no one questioned me or my date when we were in the lobby restaurant or went upstairs to the balcony. The hotel is crawling with security but everyone was polite and professional. I would say the hotel is girlfriendly because all you have to do is meet your date in the lobby and go upstairs to your room with her. There was no checking of cedulas or anything of the sort.

You do have to use your room key to operate the elevator, which made me feel very secure. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay my room was spacious, the food was decent and the balcony was a definite plus. I would definitely like to return to take advantage of the pool and piano bar. The hotel makes for a great date location with plenty to do on he property.

My room with taxes was just at $100.00 which IMHO was a steal for the experience.

This is the old Lina Hotel. It's where I got married many moons ago.

The first floor restaurant used to be the place to see and be seen.

One of those Mahogany walls and lots of crystal chandelier kind of places.

Slowly but surely those are going by the wayside.

I always prefer hotels with rooftops for hanging out.
