06/2019 - Hotel Gran Jimenoa, Jarabacoa

    Hotel Gran Jimenoa, Jarabacoa

Hotel Gran Jimenoa is in the mountains outside the city of Jarabacoa.

Jarabacoa is almost 2000 feet above sea level so it's cool during the day and cooler at night. A jacket might be advisable if you plan on being out a night.

Check in was smooth and the staff was professional. This is not a girlfriendly hotel, first of all it is remote and only accessible by vehicle, second it is a family location with large groups of children and adults. You are given a wrist band to show proof you are supposed to be on the property and your guest has to have a wrist band also. My room was very basic but I had a good view of the pool

All rooms have 2 or more beds. The WIFI was terrible! I think it was the mountains because both the hotel WIFI and my hot-spot were intermittent. The power went out a few times but the generator kicked in.A view of the pool

4.jpg5.jpgIt was interesting seeing Dominicans swim in the rain I guess there is no fear of lighting in the Dominican Republic.

The grounds are excellent and well maintained

There is a play area for the kids

The river that runs on the back of the property is very rustic

    Bar and Restaurant

Both the bar and restaurant were open air. There were shades over the open areas in case of rain. Both the bar and restaurant faced the river.

The food was good. Typical menu items steak seafood etc. with some comida tipca thrown in. Low end 300 pesos high end 1000 pesos.

Dinner was good I enjoyed my salmon although the vegetables were kind of bland.

Breakfast is included and it was WHACK. They ran out of items and the food was cold. I am glad I did not have to pay for it!

    Conclusion

The property is beautiful you can walk around and enjoy the scenery especially the river. The hotel makes for a good date location as long as you don't mind seeing children running around the property. There were not a lot of children when I was there but it was obvious this is a family destination spot.

The room was decent, as previously stated I didn't like the intermittent WIFI but I guess that comes with the territory being in the mountains. The food was good except breakfast.

My room was 3000 pesos so it did not break the bank. I would rate the hotel as decent just under 3 stars but a good enough experience to return if only for the scenic rustic view.

I stayed here twice and the balcony rooms looking at the river are the best.

I enjoyed my stay there a couple of years ago. Those rooms facing the river are terrific. The sound of the river was perfect to put me to sleep at night. Super date location!
