05/2021 - Santo Domingo Metro (Subway) system

Safest way to get around Districo Nacional, which is like the main area of Santo Domingo. The price is only 20 pesos, but I recommend getting a metro card and load it up. 20 trips costs 360 pesos.

Why is it helpful?? Simple. If your BnB is located in Winston Churchill, but you want to go to Villa Mella to visit your girl, why get fucked over by taxis or waste time in traffic with Uber? The metro can get you from megacentro to sto dgo oeste (west) in less than 30 minutes! By comparison, that same trip used to take me an hr and a half in public cars.

TL/DR: SANTO DOMINGO HAS A SUBWAY, AND IT'S AWESOME. IT'S CHEAP, VERY SAFE, AND LOADS OF BEAUTIFUL WOMEN USE IT DAILY.

When I open Google Maps on Santo Domingo, all barrios are listed on the map, and there are a lot of them.

I'm interested in barrio's profiles (population, amenities, green zones, infrastructure, crime, schools, noise, income levels, quality of environment, transportation, walkability etc), everything that can help me a to choose where to stay be it a hotel or an apartment.

Resources, links, reads in any language are welcome.

I did a video on how to find a nice apartment here where I break it down as best as I could. Hopefully that helps. I recommend using corotos.com and as far as location, anything inside "districo nacional" is higher and anything outside of that is usually cheaper. The truth is there is nowhere completely safe because the poor neighborhoods are no more dangerous than living in naco or piantini. You have a higher chance of being robbed in those areas because that's where all the rich people live. Poor people don't usually rob other poor people here.

I know dr1 had Santo Domingo guide in pdf, with at least 1st and 2nd edition, an excellent work. The last was done about 2012. I don't know if they continued with editions, I can't locate them on dr1 (I'm not a member)

You still have to be able to get around after getting off the metro.

Depends on where you are going. Sometimes the metro will drop you off literally where you are going, some places you may have to walk a little. In those instances I recommend planning your trip before hand, so that way you aren't glancing at your phone in the street constantly to verify where you are
