    12/2022 - The New Sou

Have been back about 3 times post-covid. Just want to give an update on what has changed and what hasn't, from my perspective.

Pedro Clisante/DR Rosen are still both good areas to look, the police are still making their presence felt and grabbing people. Moreso this trip than the others. It is not just the Politur now, the National Police are also in on the action.

The only real action places are Bar Central and Rhumba's. Although Citylights just reopened at the end of this last trip, with no advertising it will take a while to fully get up to speed. The "new redlight district" at the other end of PC is dead.

The beach is still the same, but the change is still in the works. The vendor's seem resigned to the fact that it likely will happen eventually, although the was a protest march at the beginning of December.

Late night still has the Casino, but never stayed up to check it out.

Quality of chica's is down, but there are still some gems that can be found. Lots of hardcore girls still around. Something for everyone.

Like everywhere prices are up for food and accommodations. Still some budget places but not as budget as before.

Depends where you eat. There is a place down by the Europa where you can get a serving for between 200 and 300 pesos that will do you for 2 meals, that is where I ate the most.

All kinds of meals for all kinds of budgets, but prices have generally gone up, just the same as everywhere.

There is also a Pica Pollo place just on the Highway beside the Texaco Station where you can get 6 strips of chicken and fries for 280 pesos, another place I are ate a few times.

    $1us is about 54.5 pesos.

I was this summer and the prices in pesos went up 50% comparing to pre-pandemic.

Rumba's prices are over the top

Sosua is not a good deal now at all. At most you can convince yourself the glass is half full.

One of the reasons is that girls don't show up because of police harassment and it includes Dominicanas.

    It's absolutely not acceptable.

It’s Dominican Food? Rhumba is international food and it’s very tasty 😋 maybe overpriced. 650 pesos for pasta and shrimps is not so much. Just my opinion.

All different kinds. Usually different meats and choice of sides (rice, pasta salad, potato, etc), plus a pasta dish or 2.

My favourites are the lasagna, chicken breasts and mashed potatoes..... when they have them.

Never eaten at Rhumba's, good to know it is an option for the future.

Other places eaten in past few trips.... Pizza at Bailee's, Schintzel at the Stube, Schnitzel at El Rancho, Meat Pie at El Conde.... all were good.

Is this the place you are talking about? The owner has a BBQ setup at the entrance with ribs, etc...

Inside the seating and selections of hot foods is as fresh as you can find in the town. The US$5 for a Bandera is hard to beat as well.

Some pretty good looking food there
    You captured some decent variety

I also enjoy Elephante and Nelsons and Hispaniola Diners Club serves some good food as well.

I won't patronize King's due to how the owner treats his female staff.

What, no Hotel Voramar? Some of the best food in town is served there. The German guy who was the chef at Orchidee for what must have been 20 years or so, when he called it quits there, the mgmt at Voramar hired him and the quality, presentation, and value, for the food are top shelf.

Thats a once a week stop for me when in town.

I just wanted to put up newer info for the town, anything that is added is most welcome.

That's the place. He did a large renovation in May this year to add some seating and upgrade it a little. Was closed for a week or so to get it done.
