I almost never use motoconchos. I walk just about everywhere while in Sosua. Anything that is beyond walking, I take a cab. I've never felt that motos are safe and I need the excercise of walking anyway.

I also don't begrudge a guy trying to make a living. Any attempt to regulate motos is just going to drive the prices up and it's the locals that rely on them for transportation that will suffer.

this topic was one of importance to the people that run things in sosua. the powers that be! its was mentioned in the monthly meeting at casa marina as a topic of how to clean up sosua and build tourist confidence... so my thinking isnt alone... the problem is this....what i simply offered was a suggestion.. just thinkin outloud... sorry for doin that... ithink?

You've been here long enough to know you need a thick skin. If I was afraid of being attacked for my opinions, I probably would not post them in a public forum. You voiced some strong opinions about motoconcho operators and you got strong opinions in return. Big deal, it's a whoreboard, not a televised presidential debate.

I don't know how serious an issue this is to the "powers that be" in Sosua. I suspect they see this more as a moneymaking enterprise that they would like to get their hands into, one way or another. In the end, this will be shakedown and the ones who will pay are the ones that have to use the motoconchos to get back and forth to work and the motoconcho operators themselves.

I took the taxi to the casino from Rocky's once, it was 150 and that was 2 years ago. I think there will be more around if there are no more Moto conches, but we will still have the same problems with these guys tryiong to rip us off for higher fares as we do with the moto conches.

I find the only that works is I find a few Moto guys I trust and ride with them throughout my stay. I never allow the chica to pick the moto conch either.

I know there can at times be a little er "brovado" amoung some of the members here - " I only paid XXX for all night" and all that shit, but you guys are really over paying for your moto rides.
From the casino the locals will pay 20p if they are sexy or 30pesos if not.

This is per person at this rate. I as a "local" gringo got my moto charges down to 40 pesos per ride from the clubs to the casino.

They will try and charge more if it rains!!!

Re: Motoconcho's protest about evening ban

durring the day i find most of them are the trustworthy type. guys that are trying to support there families and go home after a long day...its the nightime that i find all the thievies... ex. motocounch that park right up to your bumper of your truck so you do see it.. now your drunk or not, either way, when backin up you knock it over and sure enough you got to pay or the cops will be called, and now you got to pay more... that scam ive seen many times...ive seen moto's drive'n whores/thieves past ya at night, then the get off and grab your cock offering suckysucky all the while goin thru your pockets.. next thing the girls got your money and sure enough that same moto scoops her up and drinks and coke or on you...and probably the worst ive seen is when 2 or more moto's get involved.. ex. your drunk, one guy offers to take you and a fake fight breaks out... you dont want to be envoled so you jump on one and off you go...now this guy wants a cut cuz he saved you from the police... and last, the fix a flat scam... they watch you like hawks in sosua, there hasent been a time that i rented a jeep and ive gotten a flat, the first time ok, but after awhile i noticed the flat isnt under the tire its a knife cut on the side...when i find the truck the next morn there is usually i moto guy waiting to ask " you want me to fix it"..usually hes the one that that did it....i have a few guys(motocounch) i trust and after talkin with them they confirm all these stories......im not against guys makin a living but its this mafioso element that goes along with it that gives me a bad taste...

everyone will always try to get more but the problem with taxis is I honestly wouldnt even know what a fair price is for short rides and good luck getting an honest answer from someone in town.

I know motos are 20p daytime and 40p at night per person but I wouldnt honestly know all the taxi rates to various places and they are banking on that im sure.

General taxi rates to the best of my knowledge

POP airport to Sosua is $20
STI airport to Sosua has ranged from $60 to $80 for me
Sosua to POP clubs 1500-2000 for several hours

Other than that I honestly don't know what a fair price is.

What I like, most, about this board is that we can all have a different opinion, tell each other to, "Fuck You", then move on, without malice. I look forward to having a beer with all of you guys, one day.

I should imagine that, if they can't make some legitimate money, these scams will increase as they will be more desperate for drink and coke money.

Unless you found some way to get rid of them completely, such as closing off Pedro Cliente and making it a pedestrian walk, they will be getting your money, one way or the other.

And, Jimmy, even if they did close off Pedro, you would just be able to get where you want to go through the side streets. The most that you would ever have to walk is 1/2 block.

And, Sharkman, I'm having a really hard time understanding what you say. Can you be a bit more careful with your wording, spelling, and punctiation? For instance,

First off, I'm unfamiliar with a motocounch. Perhaps they are fast moving molusks which are delicious once tenderized appropriately. And if you see it, what is the problem? And, even if you do knock it over, let them call the police. By the time they get there, you will be long gone anyway. You're in a motor vehicle. Just get the motor going. According to you, even a Conch can do that.

sorry for that im usually goin back and forth with three screens.and im answering others on trading, then a position starts goin against me so i rush to not miss anything... the truth is i use half words with friends and they understand me,but i forget which screen im on... my bad... what is that you'd like cleared up sir? motocounch is a ""taxi on a motorcycle", should be "motoconcho" and i made a mistake in finnishing the word but "do should have been 'don't " as in "you don't see them".
