    Cristals Mustang Ranch Resort

My visit to "Cristals Mustang Ranch Resort".

This is not a self-serving report because it gives me no benefits. After visiting my old “Field of Dreams Inn” today I was very impressed with the improvements Leno has made. I would love to have him default on his mortgage payments and I’d get the hotel back with all those additions.

I went out there because Leno was having a problem with the water supply. A "dune buggy" neighbor who had given me problems in the past with his stealing my “paid for” water supply had cut the line to the hotel cistern. Leno will have more success dealing with this bandit than I had for sure.

Leno has added a reception area with computers for guest use, a larger air-conditioned restaurant, made my apartment into a luxury two bedroom suite with a 60”television (would love to live there now), a sauna, a large poolside bar with projection tv for sporting events and two new luxury suites. He has a chef on site (I don’t think my cooking was all that bad) with an extended menu.

He has three plans for accommodations, first is room only at $50.00 per night (same as my rates), second a MAP at $90.00 per person (all meals and local drinks) and third a full exotic vacation at $179.00 per night.

When I opened I had some detractors write that I was in the middle of nowhere. Not true as the location is 2 minutes away from 3 casinos, Mangu Disco and the golf course, 12 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes from Cristals and 20 minutes from Sosua if you want to bring back your catch of the day from there.

I’ll go back there in the next day or so to take some photos to post here.

It’s wonderful what you can do when you have a large budget and staff to do the work for you.

    Hi Billy,
JD-Mine, ElDrunko and myself made a visit there back in Sept (I believe I commented on it in my TR#24).
Here are a couple of pictures.

BUT FOD will always hold found memories for me. I doubt anyone can match your friendly customer service. It was always top rate (even with cranky old Englishmen in long-term residence!)

    Hey Billy;

You didn't say anything about the girls. What's the story with the girls there?

    Are there even girls there?

    Come on.... Give.

The place did look VERY nice when we stopped in, I was amazed at the work he has done. We(well, not me but Eric and JD as I don't speak spanish) asked alot of questions and we recieved all the right answers. The lady in the house basicly told us do what you want, strip the chicas down, dress em up, they couldn't care less.

In fact we touched on the subject of getting a group in and renting the whole place out for a weekend bash. It really does look nice.

Like I said, we touched on the thought, that was all.

I won't be planning this anytime in the future as I've moved on to bigger and better countries. With that being said, if ya wanna take over the Metro Apartments on Soi LK Metro, I'm all in

I fear ErikS loses his bearings once off his familiar Sosúa turf and has confused Field of Dreams with some other hotel. I stayed there for two weeks, and then eleven weeks, in 2006, and another four weeks this year. I never saw any cranky old Englishmen in long-term residence and I am sure if there had been any such at other times Billy would have mentioned it to me during our many conversations.

Thanks for the update Billy. Not my scene personally but the prices, especially the basic room price, seem surprisingly competitive for those who like that sort of thing, someone who likes Blackbeards but wants a change to somewhere less claustrophobic.

The location is great. Cheap fast transport to Sosúa and Puerto Plata only minutes from your door, and Muńoz only ten minutes walk away!

The first time I stayed I suffered from a cockerel which crowed every hour throughout the night. (English chickens keep quiet at night). But I didn't notice him on my later stays. Either some rice and beans had made him an offer he couldn't refuse or I had become dominicanized and used to it.

Mosquitoes can be a real problem there with the surrounding vegetation and stagnant water nearby. They came and went in phases. I imagine they will be less of a problem in Billy's new place on the hillside in the mountain breeze.

I don't think he could improve on the quality of your and your staff's cooking but the extended menu sounds good. I sometimes went out to eat just for a change, but to be fair most guys only stay for a week or less and for them the menu was sufficiently varied.

    Re: Cristals Mustang Ranch Resort

As far as the chicas are concerned. There are no chicas hanging around looking for a free drink or meal. Leno has a shuttle service to the Cristals location and you can pick from a big selection. Depending on how good a bargainer you are you can get a chica from 2000 to 3000 pesos for all night. There is no set price.

As I said before you can also go to Sosua looking for your catch of the day and bring her back. When you pay for room only you then have to buy food and beverages at the bar or restaurant. The rooms still have the bar refrigerators so you can stock up and drink your own drinks as long as you don't take the drinks to the public areas.

The only time I had problems at the "Field of Dreams" was when a group came in with lots more chicas than guys. They, the chicas, where always looking to order food and drinks on some guys tab who was too polite or didn't know the ropes well enough to say NO!!! That is why I didn't like chicas hanging around who were not invited.

I saw him there, wore pink shirts and carried a purse. He has many issues beyond being cranky!

Presidente is a premium beer in the DR?

Thats like calling Budweiser the premium beer of the US.

    Just another excuse to overcharge.

Its good people actually try to do as much research as possible for all these hidden charges so they wont be hidden for anyone who does the research here first.

So for the $90 all inclusive rate you don't get the national beer and get a very limited menu and no chicas.

Does he at least wave the salida from Crystals and let you negotiate your own rates for his girls?

I hope hes not actually expecting to make any money on this establishment because it looks so far like hes not destined to compete with Blackbeards for the adult AI crowd and he definitely cant compete with the crowd who goes for the non AI packages.

But hey if you have to spend your money on something and know its going to fail why not open a place like this for when your friends come to town and want to have a nice private party?
    Jimmy owes me a dollar!

If the local drinks include Bohemia and Anejo then i would definately break the bank on this deal.

Not of particular interest to me (so long as he considers agua a local drink!) but which branded beer is significantly cheaper than Presidente? I would think the saving to him would be so small he would not want to bother with withholding it.

I don't think there would be any problem with the menu if he has maintained Billy's standard and enlarged the choice. And you would not expect to him to include accommodation, drinks, meals and a chica for $90. Be reasonable, young Beads!

Good question about the salida. I would guess it still applies but perhaps at a "special customer" rate of RD$500 or RD$700. Anyone know?

I don't understand this comment. Since when did Blackbeards offer an AI package? He is offering a better location and ambience and a wider selection of (on the average) better-looking chicas. They are more expensive but still well within the budget of many First World and rich Dominican customers. And he isn't trying to compete for the old Palace/Europa crowd. Or for cheap Charlies like me!

I am sure there is an ample market for what he is offering but his problem is advertising and making it known. Leno obviously knows his way through the Dominican maze (as in the example Billy quoted) but does he know how to work the sex travel media and websites and build a reputation there?

I dont understand why he doesnt offer Presidente included but apparently he feels charging 150RD is going to work for him. Good luck with that sounds more like your paying Crystals price for a Presidente in your hotel!

I didn't suggest including the chica but having a very limited menu isn't going to make guests happy.A lot of people want some variety if they are eating in the same place 5-7 days in a row.

Good question about the salida. I would guess it still applies but perhaps at a "special customer" rate of RD$500 or RD$700. Anyone know?

Your correct Blackbeards is not an AI everything is a la carte. As far as offering better selection of chicas I dont see any difference if he still has the same salida for Mustang Ranch customers as everyone else. Theres no savings there so why stay at his place?

This we shall have to see. Without making some changes though he will have a difficult time competing with Blackbeards.

Question Re: Cristals Mustang Ranch Resort

Hello Fellas. I just booked a flight to POP for a long weekend (Thurs. afternoon through Monday afternoon) during the second week of Feb. (7 - 11). I originally planned to go to BB and the end of Feb. but they were full so I scooped up the earlier date. Here's the rub... I visited the DR way back in the earlier 90s with my parents and family but, obviously, did no mongering. I'm looking to get my feet wet and the "fish in a barrel" setup seems like a good starting point. Having said that my question is this... I want to experience a taste of Sousa, especially LaPassion's as the vets on this board attest that Peter's joint is off the hinges. I also think that a night at Mustang ranch would be cool as it includes a Cristal's chica. Lastly, given that this trip is a "sampler", I was thinking that a night at New Garden might also serve well as you vets testify to it's reliability and central location. What do you guys think, am I being to ambitious. Should I just spend the whole trip at BBs or MR? In the event that you think my game plan IS feasible, let me know how you think that I should arrange/stagger it. Thanks people

I'd never try to tell anyone what to do, but I will say that ... on my trip I did the sampler method ... BB's and NG (including La Passions of course) and I had the time of my life!!!

Next trip will be broke up between BB's and Sosua as well. Too much of anywhere or anyone gets old quick for me ... variety is the spice of life!!!IMHO!

I really doubt you can have a bad trip with any, or all of the options you listed!!!
    You are not special!

She is not different than the others!

If you make the trip it would be nice to have a independent review of MR verses to BB
