The Customs Department has announced that taxpayers contributed RD$12,975,677,392 billion, or RD$951 million more than budgeted. Customs attributed the increase to improved controls, procedures and facilities in the department.


Collections in March alone are 675 million more than budgeted, or 18% more, according to a report in Listin Diario.


The Price Consumer Index was up by 0.09% in March, according to the Central Bank. This brings accumulated inflation for the first quarter to 1.52%. Inflation over the past 12 months, from March 2005 to March 2006 was 8.25%, and the average over the past 12 months was 3.95%. The low inflation rate is reported at a time when fuel prices have continued to increase.
