Estoy is for things/conditions that are temporary in nature such as location and emotions. Soy is for things that are unchanging or change infrequently. Apparently rich is viewed as a permanent condition so "soy" is used. The usage of "un" is correct if you want to say "I am not a rich man"; however, if you're saying "I'm no rich man" or I'm not rich with the hombre used solely for emphasis then it's not needed. My understanding is dominican spanish is very informal so I think the un probably would be dropped regardless. Note of caution, while I may know 600 or more words my grammar sucks, though I believe I am slowly, very slowly that is, starting to see and understand the pattern. I really need to stop spending so much time on this site and get busy with my lessons. Problem is that's work and this is like smoking dope.
