The only time I ever felt threatened was in Charamicos.
I was friends with a group of girls from Rio San Juan that lived in an apartment over there.
Went to their house about 5:00 a.m.
Next afternoon, just as I was leaving their building and walking out to the street, a Dominican chulo spotted me and started asking if I needed help. Then he said he had some drugs to show me and was motioning for me to follow him around the back of a building across the street, and I noticed there was some Dominicans hanging around the corner of that same building. I knew something bad would go down if I followed him.
I ain't no fool, so I just started walking up the street, the opposite direction. Got the first motoconcho I saw.
Shit, I was really deep in the barrio of Charamicos, took the motoconcho about 10-15 minutes to hit the main highway.
Just how big is Charamicos? I figure I could walk to the highway from anywhere in there in less than 15 minutes.
Sure but not more than a 15 minute walk.

Not looking for an argument but I think this part of Frito's post is inaccurate.
You are both right. Because the roads in the barrio are so bad it probably would take about 10 - 15 minutes to get from one end to the other. The distance is short but you have to go slow over the rocks and pot holes.
and those deep ass drainage ditches.
i've gone through charamicos on foot faster than in a car.
the three or four times i went through in a car were god awful slow because of the potholes and ditches.
but, i'm more inclined to believe that frito was just using some creative license with the retelling of the story for dramatic effect.
it's ok. he's not the first, he won't be the last.
let me tell you about this fishing trip i went on.
Also he was trying to get away from what he thought was a bad situation. It's possible the time to get away was a lot longer than it actually was.
