    Re: Hurricane Maria

    18 September 2017 • 7:56pm
Hurricane Maria strengthened into a Category 3 storm on Monday and pushed toward the Leeward Islands in the eastern Caribbean, as forecasters warned it was expected to become a major hurricane by early Tuesday.

The storm was on a path that would take it near many of the islands already wrecked by Hurricane Irma and then on toward Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Maria could hit Puerto Rico on Wednesday as a Category 3 or 4 hurricane, said Ernesto Morales with the U.S. National Weather Service in San Juan.

"This storm promises to be catastrophic for our island," he said. "All of Puerto Rico will experience hurricane force winds."

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Maria had maximum sustained winds of 110 mph (175 kph) Monday morning. It was centered about 60 miles (95 kilometers) east-southeast of Dominica - or 85 miles (135 kilometers) east of Martinique - and heading west-northwest at 12 mph (19 kph).
First landfall is expected around 8 p.m. local time in the northeast Caribbean's Leeward Islands -- specifically Dominica and Martinique.

Hurricane warnings were posted for Guadeloupe, Dominica, St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, Martinique and St. Lucia. A tropical storm warning was issued for Antigua and Barbuda, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten.

People in low lying areas of Antigua and Barbuda were urged to evacuate, rather than wait until the last minute.

Forecasters said hurricane conditions should begin to affect parts of the Leeward Islands by Monday night, with storm surge raising water levels by 4 to 6 feet (1.2 to 1.8 meters) near the storm's center. The storm was predicted to bring 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 centimeters) of rain across the islands, with more in isolated areas.

    Re: 09/2017 - Hurricane Maria

dat likkle island Dominica always gotten nailed....their PM lost his roof off his house and said the island got flattened by Maria
looks like Puerto Rica gonna get hit too.....hate to see it but many of the Caribbean islands are taking major blows this year....

mi just happy it wasn't Jamaica too....Jamaica would take almost a year to recover from an Irma type hurricane....
and mi wouldn't have a place to live in Jamaica for awhile....that would really suck....
and mi couldn't imagine the begging that would go on with something that big.....mi probably would have hide mi online presence
and mi on island presence would be a no no....the thiefing would be unbelievable too....ugh

So far, rainy and breezy with the occasional small gust. The next few hours will be the worst of it wind wise. The question will be the rains tonight and flooding.

Looks like the North Coast is in the middle of it right now.

With luck the path has taken a more northern path sparing them much of the same destruction that hit Puerto Rico but they are still getting it none the less

Fabio Garcia a local reporter there has been reporting live on his facebook page

Where did you happen to hear that?

That website seems to be pretty current on earthquakes everywhere in the world and they are not saying anything about it.

    Lot's of quakes going on.

    Re: 09/2017 - Hurricane Maria

18.00 hrs in Puerto Plata (Thursday). Nothing going on where I live. Pedestrians and traffic in the street outside throughout the day. Intermittent rain but no particularly high winds. Power and internet on all day which is a sure sign nothing serious is happening.

I was woken up from my siesta about 2pm by a loudspeaker van cruising the street. I rushed to my balcony fearing some serious warning like the sea-wall collapsed or the water supply was polluted but it was just guys selling platanos from an open truck in the wind and rain. Strangely, they had no takers.

As per windy.com the event is a tropical storm in Sosua, very much like Irma, only a bit of more rain.

Am at Blackbeards now, off & on rain & wind. Looks like we're on the edge of Maria. & will last another day. Going from Field of Dreams to Bb about noon today with my driver, almost no traffic , no taxis and all businesses closed. Rain & especially wind last night.

    Re: 09/2017 - Hurricane Maria

Actually a bit surprised, much more consistent rain and wind here, for us worse than Irma. Definitely some beach erosion, and I am getting water into my apartment which didn't occur with Irma. Been raining pretty consistently for the last 7 or 8 hours and wind been howling for that long as well, plus the loss of power, which wasn't as bad with Irma. Hopefully it will let up soon, feel sorry for those with thatch roofs.

I cannot remember it ever closing. I was there on Saturday evening for an hour. About 15 girls. One or two nice ones, the rest very average. One girl told me there were no staying guests there.

It is convenient for guys staying at Playa Dorada slipping away from their wives for a couple of hours but otherwise there are always better options for fucking, eating, or staying overnight.

    Re: 09/2017 - Hurricane Maria

This one is much worse than Irma for us on the south coast, which I don't understand seeing where the eye is. At this point hoping it doesn't blow through my balcony sliding doors, the wind is strong, which is causing the water to come through, underneath the sliding doors and windows, probably will try and sleep in the living room or second bedroom, which doesn't face the sea. Could be a long night.
