I have tried various hotels and apartments in Santo Domingo but my favorite place to stay in the city is the Hotel Riazor. I decided to switch up and visit some other spots. I picked the Weston Suites Hotel because it is centrally located in downtown Santo Domingo and it has a pool which I wanted to use with my date.

Check in was easy and there is also a lounge area for your guest to wait

The biggest SHOCK at check in was

Check out time is at 12 noon. For every hour after you are charged $100.00 and they make sure to keep your credit card on file...OUCH!!!!
Needless to say I checked out on time.

Another interesting thing is how security is tight. There is security at the door but what I really found interesting was the elevator. There are two guest elevators. I got in the first one and pressed my floor a few times and the elevator would not budge!

Obviously this elevator is malfunctioning so I went to plan B and tried the second elevator the same thing...CONYO! Then all of a sudden I had a Duhhhhhhhhhhh moment...I put the electronic key on the key pad next to the control panel and guess what????

Guess? WHALAH I am going up. I felt soooooooooo stupid...haaaaaaaaaaaa!

There was a refrigerator but there was no mini bar just 2 bottles of water

The bed was very comfortable and the WIFI was strong. My complaint would be the view was horrible from the floor I was on. If I were higher up I would have had a vista view of the city.

I booked for two and I didn't bring my date up but I saw many couples go upstairs. Not sure if you could bring obvious hookers security is pretty tight.

Takumi Restaurante

Takumi restaurant is right outside the hotel on the property. You can eat in or order room service. The dinning room was very nice with a great ambiance.Takumi 1.jpgTakumi 2.jpg

There were two bathrooms with the same nomenclature I could not tell which one was for caballeros and which one was for damas?????

The food was great, but the portions were small. Most of the dishes were Asian cuisine plates were between 500-1000 pesos. You could spend 3000 and up easy for two between appetizers and drinks.

Conclusion

Westin Hotels & Resorts are a part of the Mariott hotel chain and not to be confused with the Weston Hotel in Santo Dominigo. The only Weston Hotel I could find was in Santo Domingo.

They have 3 basic class rooms: Standard, Superior and Suite prices range from $55.00 -$100+ per night depending on the special. The amenities include a gym, pool and restaurant.

There was no bellman to assist you with your bags and no mini bar in case you got the munchies in the middle of the night. ​

Although I only stayed one night I enjoyed my stay.
