It will come to you soon ! It's not rare here(Québec). Well organized gang with all the techno stuff : false card-slot, false keyboard, mini-camera, etc. They make a ton of money. And it happens at any hour of the day, even in front of the surveillance cameras.

It's not uncommon for people here to have 5-10 000$ credit line on the ATM card. So, when they get your info, bingo!

The banks cover the losses. When it will cost them too much, maybe they will put a more secure system.

For those who come down frequently as I do, I'd suggest opening a Banco Santo Cruz account due to its open network in the states...easier to transfer money back and forth, etc. Plus there is no dollar minimum requirement anymore.

Judy's uses them...you can not go deathly wrong!

Where in the world is MAV?

There is not a problem cashing Travelers Checks in the DR, although some places (not many) will try to charge you a few or give you a lower exchange rate.

Niote: This thread is over 2 years old and refers to a specific location in Sosua that cashes personal checks. I'm not sure of the situation at that place today.
