Melia Hotel vs. Cabanas: need your advice

    Hi all

I will be going to SD on a business trip soon and unfortunately I was placed at Melia hotel (I tried resisting and asking for Hilton or Courtyard Marriott, but it didn't work out)

So the dilemma that I have is:

    1) Bribe the security guard at Melia and bring the chica to my room
    2) Get a room in one of the cabanas recommended on this site

Naturally I would prefer the first option (less hassle) but I don't know the following:

    1) Is it common for security guards at Melia to let the girls in for a bribe?
    2) How much would it cost me?

    Any feedback on that?
    Cheers

Forget about it. Melia will not budge. Get a side room at the Hotel Raizor behind the Jaragua. $50 per night. Actually, cabanas are cheaper, like $10 for 1-2 hour stay.

Re: Melia Hotel vs. Cabanas: need your advice

I never heard of anyone being able to bribe a chica past the guard there. The Raizor side room is a good idea. However the Cabanas are on the same street,George Washington Blvd/Malecon and would be no more than a 100-150peso taxi ride.A good Cabana is the "Honeymoon" and costs 450pesos and up.
The cabs on the Malecon are much cheaper than the cabs that park on the hotel property.Take one of those. After 10:00 p.m have one take you to the Alsa gas station which is not far from the Melia. There are always lots of girls there.Pick one up and take her to the Honeymoon for a honeymoon.
The Melia also gets lots of Europeans and the females go topless in the pool.
They have a pretty good gym and the American breakfast is good there as well.

That gas station is an Isla station. Be careful of the chicas out there. many appear under aged, drugged out and I have heard more than a few reports of then ripping guys off.

Re: Melia Hotel vs. Cabanas: need your advice

Thank you all, guys. That was very helpul.

One question, though: what is the procedure of checking into cabana? Is it like a regular hotel with reception and all? Also, what is an reasonable rate for cabanas? Should i go with 3 days in a row or just 3-4 hours at a time?

    Thanks

There are nice cabanas on the malecon 10 minute drive west of the Jaragua casino.

Cabanas are nothing like a hotel with receptionist, much more descreet. They are individual bedrooms connected by a garage. You drive into the garage, close the door, head into the bedroom, and pay through a wall. No one ever sees you except the security guard

Cabanas are worth the experience, even if just for one time.

If you do not have your own car, then I would only use a cabana for a couple hours, because remember having to pay a taxi each way to and from the cabana.

If you want convenience and a better feeling of security then the Hotel Riazor is a good choice, it is behind theJaragua Casino. The block next to Riazor also has a whore house called Lapsus

At this point, I am between Hotel Raizor and Hotel Palacio for my March visit. Palacio is more expensive but nicer with a high speed internet connection for getting info from ISOC. Both are chica-friendly. Raizor is closer to the Jaragua, which is freelance chica-central, IMO.

The Palacio is a real nice place. They do have internet access but you have to keep on feeding it coins,so it adds up.There are many other inexpensive internet cafes nearby that are much less expensive. If you're going to stay there do a search here for info on the "Conde" which give you the lowdown on the local scene there.
If you pay in cash at the Palacio they give you a 10% discount and another 5% off if you say you're on business. They also have different classes of rooms. The least expensive is what they call the traveller's studio. That's usually what I get when I stay there.

Drjetman, just one possible correction. Palacio has free internet access and a pc in it's room. At least in the suite I stayed in in June of this year.

True, there is one pc in the lobby. But I got the suite and it comes with one. Can't wait to get back in March.

This area can be a bit dangerous late at night. So if you do go there, be very careful.

After midnight, a lot of the girls from Lapsus and The Girl's House will hang out in front of Hotel Riazor and Manolo Cafeteria to look for clients.

2,000 for an all-nighter (TLN) is more than enough.
