Is there a speed limit in the DR?

    Hey guys

Is there a speed limit in the DR (in the highways)?

I am planning to drive (maybe in early Sept but I am not sure) from Santo Domingo to Santiago (maybe chill for a day) and then drive up North to Puerto Plata and then to Sosua.

I do not recall seeing any speed limit signs in the DR.

If I go really f*cking fast, will the cops pull me over?
I always speed in the DR but I never got pulled over because of it.

When I have the exact dates, I'll give you guys a ride.

There definitely is a speed limit, iirc it's 80KPH.

The Policia National will pull you over and they even have radar guns.

Big highway Duarte to Santo Domingo is 100kph.
Otherwise 80 on highways, 50 in town.

Re: Is there a speed limit in the DR?

As one who has made the trip on the average of every two weeks for the last dozen years, I can tell you no one observes the speed limits.

Everytime I drive on Autopista Duarte, I drive around 100-110 kms., and I get passed by just about everyone.

Common sense tells you that you should drive the same speed or less than everyone else.

I can tell you that the faster you go, the sooner you'll have an accident. The odds are against you. There's too many people driving that don't have licenses, and a large portion of them are illiterate, so they've never taken a driving exam, read a drivers manual, etc. They just get in or on a vehicle and go. On top of that, they drink.

In all of my years here, I've only had a couple of accidents, and none were my fault. Driving slow has it's advantages.
