VERY NICE........Thanks
Great trip report and pics!!
We took a side trip one afternoon to El Limon and Samana. The views on that road are less spectacular than the mountain road between Sanchez - Las Terrenas but it was a nice trip also.
We took a gua-gua from LT to El Limon and another one from El Limon to Samana. It took about 2 hours including the wait for a gua-gua to fill.
The cost is 50 pesos per person for each gua-gua. Really cheap and a nice way to meet and chat with Dominicans.
The gua-gua going to El Limon, a four doors pick-up. We were lucky to be inside, on the back seat, but it look fun also in the bed.
Leaving Las Terrenas
El Limon pueblo
We waited there for about 20 minutes. Our next gua-gua going to Samana city
We made it to Samana and I really liked the place. I think I'll spend some time there in the future.
The malecon along the bay look great
Sorry for the girl in the last pic....
We had lunch at that place on the Malecon
After that, we took a motoconcho to la parada de gua-gua
Want a banana ?
Downtown Samana
Rush hour in Samana
We took the same trip back to Las Terrenas, in gua-gua. A taxi wanted to take us to LT direct. He first asked 1500 pesos then 1300 then 1200. The guy followed us for some time and was now at 1000 pesos when I decided to be less polite and get rid of him.
I really liked what I saw in Samana. Nice size city with probably a lot of opportunities (chicas). I'll try to spend some nights there in the future.
Discos in Las Terrenas
There is maybe 5 discos. I've been to 3:
La Bodega: Open air, they sometime have a band playing, I liked it
Opalo: Trendy place, all white, brand new, not my cup of tea
El Toro Sobre El Techo: On the beach, they have the worst bar I've ever seen, the top is flush to the front and your knees are always hitting the bar
Not much available girls but some could be had, again I didn't search for any. I had my chica and on a quiet night some guys came around her like vultures the minute I got to the bathroom. I guess they were "In search of chicas", better luck next time !
The prey
I must say she was pretty hot on that night, with that little yellow piece of cloth.
Places to eat in LT
Lot of nice restos and not a lot of North American type food. More European especially French cuisine. But be prepared to pay, it's not cheap.
The included breakfasts at the hotel were good as well as the different dishes we had there. More Italian this time, lot of pastas etc. We also had some nice pizza from a place near the hotel.
But my best lunch was in Sanchez.
More variety and a better range of price in Sosua, IMHO.
After 5 nights there, it was time to return to Sosua. I had the hotel manager call me a cab and we were on our way to Sanchez.
That's were the bus stop in Sanchez
Before going, we had lunch at that small place
I must say it was the best meal I had in 2 weeks. Camarones con arroz y habichuelas
The total for the meal, 2 big Presidentes, a cola: about 520 pesos. The owner even had her son took us back to the bus stop and the kid never accepted a peso from me. I invited him to share a grande with me and told him to say Muchas gracias again to his mother. Great people.
The ride back to Sosua was better, less crowded so less stop along the way.
So back in Sosua for my last 3 days and I had my little drama for the trip when I dumped my travel companion. She was not happy about it but well, she should not let me go out alone in Sosua !
I think it's ok now, she was happy when I gave her some pics and I didn't had a beer bottle behind the head !
Some more sun before going home
All in all, it was a great experience. I will be back, probably in Samana city.
The place is really nice, the views, vegetation, etc. The people there are also great, no one hassle you there.
If you think about going there, don't expect Sosua. There is only one place like Sosua. There are girls to be had there but it's not a whore/party kind of place.
With that in mind, go and enjoy the beauty of the Dominican Republic and it's peoples !
Thank you for reading my adventure and feel free to ask any questions.
The End.
Thanks for sharing that with us that was awesome. Hopefully some day I will get to see Las Terrenas myself.
Jimmy owes me a dollar!
Yes El Catey airport. Some charter go there winter time, not much. Not much Canadians there yet, didn't saw any American. The people in Las Terrenas are afraid their city may turn in another Sosua !
I want to explore Samana city next time, more of a bigger city and pretty nice.
Once again, OUTSTANDING trip report!!!
Thanks.
Great Report, thanks.
I'm looking forward to the time when my spanish improves enough that I'm comfortable heading out to some other places around the country.
