My concern is DR, so this thread will be dedicated to this new disturbance currently flowing towards the Islands. Maybe it will fizzle out; and maybe it won't!
September is when these storms start heating up in the Atlantic. I'll check back in a couple days and see how this one is doing. Hopefully it will be nothing!

Why should I limit myself to only one woman when I can have as many women as I want?
George Gershwin
Yea that was a heated battle over the weather.
Jimmy owes me a dollar!
Why was there a problem?
I'm keeping a close eye on it since I'm headed down to D.R. Tomorow.

I don't know why the thread caused all the stir either...but it did. On 8/15/08, 3Some had posted a warning on Tropical Storm Fay as it was forming over the DR. PSR added some DR weather reports. El Capitan chimed in urging everyone not to worry... the storm was not as bad as the reports made it out to be. A pissing contest soon followed between EC and 3Some as well as the other posters in the thread. http://news.insearchofchicas.org/for...d.php?t=126373
I was suprised that El Capitan got so upset about it, he is a in demand florida preparedness consultant down here!!! he's on local radio and everything....so why he would get up in arms over 3some someone who doesnt have any formal preparedness training is beyond me???
I thought Rocky got pissed & left for a while , cause people kept saying it "could" hit Sosua, and he keps repeating that NO HURRICANE has EVER directly hit Sosua, because its on the North Coast / Atlantic Ocean etc etc.
It went back and forth like that for quite a while and more people chimed in , took sides & then it got really ugly.
edit,
Never mind, I just now realized this was a completely different hurricane thread. Same types of arguments though.

You're absolutely right!! Rocky quit the site over what started out to be another basic "hurricane" thread. It happens every year. Those that reside in Sosua get very defensive when we say it's "possible" for a hurricane to make a direct hit even though all the computer models indicate it's possible.
Latest Info: Sept 1st.
The area of disturbed weather about 300 miles east of the Lesser Antilles continues to produce thunderstorm activity.
Recent data from the area indicates that the low pressure system that had been east of Barbados Monday has weakened, but a new low may be forming to the north and east of the old one.
The Hurricane Hunters will investigate the area this afternoon to ascertain what is going on.
This area could be classified a tropical depression or a tropical storm later today, depending on what the Hurricane Hunters find.
Nevertheless the disturbance is expected to move off to the west-northwest and could impact the northern part of the Lesser Antilles in the next 2 or 3 days.
Notice that one of the computer models takes the storm through DR!!!
(although i think this one will flow north of the islands)
TROPICAL STORM ERIKA - tuesday night 9/1/09
ERIKA
Tropical Storm Erika formed in the Atlantic late on Tuesday. Erika is centered about 390 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. Maximum sustained winds are 50 mph and has become nearly stationary. It should resume a WNW movement later tonight. Tropical storm watches have been issued for the northern Leeward Islands. Residents of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico will have to watch this system carefully. Even if Erika remains a tropical storm, it could be capable of producing heavy rain and widespread flooding.
