I stayed there 3 times. Some guys say they do not like it. But I never had any problems. You should call now and reserve a room on the first floor.First floor units have walk out patios right to the pool. The staff is very friendly and attractive. There are usually a few chicas hanging at the bar looking for guys, but they are not aggressive, i think the staff keeps them under control. Food is good, pool is nice (deep end is 6 ft or so) plenty of fellow mongers to hang out with. There are two massage places close to the hotel, the one on the same side of the street is the one I like. Usually nice young chicas from Santo Domingo work there. BBBJ from 300 - 500 pesos. They have good digital safes in the closet and I always found hangers in the closet as well. Last time i was there they had just installed new digital cable. There's a gate across the entrance secured with a padlock. When you check in you're given a keyring with 2 keys; one to the padlock and one to your room. It's very secure in many ways some not obvious at first glance but suffice to say that no one tries to break in and the chicas cannot escape without you letting them out.

I suggest locking your keys in the safe if you are with a chica....

That exterior gate came in handy on my first trip to Sosua. A chica tried to steal 1000 pesos from me and had to give it back to get out. Rockies has great internet and food. Rooms are a great option if you are on a tight budget or if you made the mistake of booking an AI resort.

Factor in the best location in town, central to everything and walking distance to anywhere I've ever wanted to go in Sosua and it's unbeatable.



Since there is a nice new pool just across the street, literally, that Rocky's hotel customers can use and that breakfast for most people is under $5 at Rocky's AND all the other things that make it pretty much the meeting place for gringo residents and tourists, there is no comparison to D'Piero.

While it's a fine place it's a little out of the way for most people except those specifically looking to be in that area. There are limited guests and interaction, unlike Rocky's with a great and ever changing mix all day and night, and while I'm sure the menu is good it cannot compare in variety to Rocky's.

From the central area where Rocky's is located it's a nice under 15 minute stroll to Passions and Cuba Libre bars, and I can do it in 10 or so...

Everything is a trade-off and it really depends on what a guys priorities are. For most it seems to be value and location, location, location.
Rockies is seconds from Bermuda bar, a minute from the Shark Bar, El Flow and Rumba, 2 minutes from Seacrets, Sosua Life and Clasico...Can't be better located or priced!

Like OohSix said it is hard to beat the Value at Residence D'Piero in both quality and price.
If you want inner city and stumble distance from the late night disco then New Garden for 50% more money is a great option that does offer many but not all the things of D'Piero.

Look at these things before booking anywhere.

Can you walk safely and easily without climbing a hill or lots of stairs like at Sosua Bay Resort or crossing the Major Highway to go to the Palms before climbing the big hill up mountain side. Now I realize that if you rent a car none of this matters for us.

you may be on to something regarding Mike being part owner of Piero. I stayed there over two months and as an objective observer, there are some negatives that Mike never mentions. For example, there is a pool and jacuzzi as he states, but not only did I never see him in the pool or jacuzzi, a rare guest entered because the water was cold in both the jacuzzi and pool based on feedback from guests lounging around it.

I did use the pool several times and a couple of my chicas went in with me as well after some nudging and me getting in first. I dont let the cold water bother me, probably my Marine Corps background. Why is the pool cold you may ask? Well, Mike fails to mention that the pool has a constant garden hose putting cold water in it because it has a leak so the water does not have much time to warm up. Also, many days the pool was murky and appeared dirty. I cleaned pools for a hotel before as a young man and based on the color, their was an imbalance between muric acid and chlorine and during my entire stay did not see anyone test the chemical levels, but did see the young pool boy dump some chemical powder in the pool during breakfast hours. Perfect time to be adding harsh chemicals in powder form to a pool right next to people trying to eat their breakfast and the wind blows the chemical in your direction where it chokes you. I had to tell him once to not do it with the strong wind when people were eating. Common Sense seems to be lacking.

The jacuzzi is just not heated and was told it was too expensive to heat when it was working. Several times I was told it needed repairs and I and my chicas could not use it, so to speak of a jacuzzi like Mike does, that I saw no one use except me and a couple of my chicas (most likely because it was cold) is a bit misleading. Bottom line is saying that something like a jacuzzi or pool are there does not mean they are pleasant to use and if they are not pleasant to use then it is as if they dont exist for guests.

The breakfast is fine at Pieros when they get it correct. Since I stayed a long time and almost always ordered the same thing, after about two weeks it arrived the same almost every order. Before that something was always different like no cheese or no tomatoes or no bacon, etc. Eventually they got it right. I sat at breakfast with numerous guests and made some nice friends there, but the issue with getting the breakfast order correct was a systemic issue as told by other guests.

I could go on about Pieros and mention other issues that Mike seems to like to leave out. If you are going to be objective give both positive and negative points about services offered.

I found the best thing about Pieros is that they do not hassle the chicas, but a friend of mine told me that a chica waited for him at the Piero bar and ordered five beers and put it on his room account and he was not even there and did not authorize such a thing. He was a long term guest and wanted to pay his bills at time of sale and no bill to the room after this. He was pissed that the hotel would allow this so this is an example of of not hassling the chicas goes to the extreme at Pieros. Guys just a friendly reminder to check your bar bills when at Pieros since this may not be a one time occurrence.

Pools and Jacuzzi's for the most part are not heated in Caribbean..........
suppose to be refreshing having it cold versus hot.......
it's a Caribbean mindset since everything is so hot so they want their pools and jacuzzi's cold.......
versus North America where everything is cold and wi want our pools and jacuzzi's hot......

You are so right. The pool there has always been clean in my opinion but the heavy rains did cause it to need to be treated and it was. As far as powder put in during breakfast I wasn't eating then and the jacuzzi works fine except for one day when maintenance was already gone for the day and Roman expected an office girl to fix it. LOL
I used both the pool and jacuzzi with a couple of chicas and it was fine for us. Some people would have problems no matter where they went. Many of us never have a problem with the pool there and continue to go back. But then we all have different tastes including in women.
