The IX International Book Fair, whose theme this year is "Reading enlightens", will open in the Plaza de la Cultura in Santo Domingo at 7 this evening. The plaza is located between Pedro Henriquez Urena, Cesar Nicolas Penson and Maximo Gomez avenues, near the United States Embassy. The plaza houses the National Theater as well as several museums. This year access to the fair will be from the Pedro Henriquez Urena Avenue rather than Maximo Gomez, due to the construction of the Metro station in front of the National Theater. There will be 200 pavilions, 450 exhibitors, 100 international writers, 214 publishing houses, 28 nations, with Argentina as the special invitee country this year.
There will be many artistic performances featuring the best of local and international music and dance. The fair runs for 14 days and ends on 7 May.
