First Trip to DR

Planning on going to DR for the 1st time. I usually go to costa rica for the past 4 years and just got back from thailand in march. was thinking about coming down juky 4th weekend. i have a friend who recommends sosua.
can anybody recommend an area in sosua that a 1st timer should stay in order to have a good 1st time. i will also search the boards but i want up to date info
