Minister of Interior and Police Franklin Almeyda addressed a major concern of the fight against increasing crime in the DR. "There are many criminals in the police who have to be expelled and there is political will for that," he said, as reported in El Dia newspaper. He said that the officers in question often cover up for each other, and that there is "a kind of lodge and solidarity among them, and we have to work towards breaking up that culture as part of the action to be taken." Almeyda said that Police Chief Mayor General Bernardo Santana Paez is working on this.
