Writing in today's El Caribe, Sociologist Frank Marino Hernandez comments that most candidates for posts in the upcoming election have concentrated on setting up large signs with their mug-shots to convince voters to recognize them and vote for them in the 16 May congressional and municipal elections. He says that political strategists overall have decided to go with presenting excellent photographs of the contestants. "It looks like we are about to choose many candidates for Mister and Miss Dominican Republic." He points out that there isn't a poster, or advertisement that mentions what the candidates offer to do if they are chosen. "Neither do the advertisements indicate the education, experience and skills of the candidates," he points out. Hernandez concludes that it is as if "we have to second-guess our candidates and give them all the necessary space to seek the victory that they aspire to. That is not how such a serious game as politics should be played. The campaign needs content, we have to know what they want, what they propose, what they can do, and what can be expected of them," he writes.

Hernandez says that it is refreshing to know that there is a web site where voters can get some information about the candidates.
