Located in the province of San Juan is the José del Carmen Ramirez National Park that occupies 306 square miles. Low temperatures prevail in this park, ranging between 12ºC and 18ºC. Freezes and frosts occur in areas like Valle del Tetero, with temperatures of 4ºC and 5ºC below zero.
Just like the Armando Bermudez National Park, this national park has the largest number of water resources. The Yaque del Sur, San Juan and Mijo Rivers flow through the subtropical humid mountain forest in the southern Cordillera. This is the source of the principal rivers, which irrigate the San Juan Valley and provide the neighbouring communities with electric power.

There is a diverse population of reptiles, birds and mammals, including wild boar. Due to the fact that the principal species of birds, which occupy the natural spaces in this protected area, are found in high-mountain regions, they are biologically important. Some bird species include the white-necked crow, Hispaniolan parrot and loggerhead flycatcher.

Vegetation here is mainly comprised of mixed and wide-leaf coniferous woods. The local pine tree is prevalent on the high terrain.

Also pre-Columbian expressions and rock carvings in the Tetero Valley add a historical and cultural interest to the park.
