The Central Electoral Board (JCE) announced yesterday that the deadline for the actual publication of the lists of candidates is 11 May. The congressional and municipal election is scheduled for 16 May. However, the director of elections promised that he would send each political party, and just about anybody who asks for one, a CD with the facsimile of the election ballots and a list of the possible candidates in the next few hours. According to Gilberto Cruz Herasme, the fact that there has been, as yet, no official publication of the full list of candidates, "does not mean that they don't know who they are, because in each local election board they know who the candidates are." The PLD party formally requested that the JCE hand over a list of all the candidates. Cruz Herasme also told reporters that about 60% of the ballots were already printed up and that the ballots for Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, and La Romana were ready for the printers. He warned, however, that if the magistrates of the Disputes Court accept some of the objections at the last minute, ballots would have to be reprinted. According to Hoy newspaper, the CONEP business association also joined with the PRSC and the PRD to request the list of candidates.
