The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) reopened its doors yesterday to the thousands of students who were clamoring for their education. Due to the prolonged strike by professors and other employees of the huge state-run university, the current academic semester will be extended for two weeks. Some estimates of the cost of the strike exceed RD$100 million. The university's rector, Roberto Reyna, said that as soon as the current semester is over, the summer session will start up, and will cost the university RD$23 million.
