The government met with the executives from the Haina and Itabo electricity generators yesterday as a first step towards the renegotiation of the current contracts for buying and selling electricity for the national network. Sparse details from the four-hour meeting were obtained from a source close to the sector, which revealed that the people at EGE Haina had hardened their position with respect to the renegotiation of the contracts. The source said that both entities (Itabo and Haina) were given a document that cited the most contentious parts of the existing contracts and listed the issues that are the cause of the exorbitant price of a kilowatt/hour of electricity currently in effect throughout the DR. According to the source, "they (Haina and Itabo) promised to send the document to their head offices for further study and analysis. There was no timeframe established for their answer." The government was represented by CDEEE administrator Radhames Segura.
