[DR1] Police officers test positive for drugs

Out of 400 police officers tested for drugs, 40 were positive according to Diario Libre sources. These tests were sponsored by the Police Internal Affairs Department which is performing a "cleansing" process in the institution. The police plan to fire those who tested positive. Last year, the tests were performed on agents working for the "Safe Neighborhood" plan and none tested positive. The tests are routinely practiced on members of the armed forces and other public officials. Interior and Police Minister Franklin Almeyda refused to comment on the issue stating it was an internal police matter. No information was disclosed by the Police Deputy Director of Public Relations Lorenzo Morillo, and Police Chief Major General Santana Paez could not be located by the news media.
