The cost of sending international electoral observers to the Dominican Republic for the 16 May midterm elections will be funded by the United States, Canada, Brazil and the European Union, according to the Organization of American States (OAS) Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin who held a meeting with representatives of the international community in the DR in preparation for the observation mission. Diario Libre reports that a delegation of 40 OAS observers and an additional 100 international envoys will be monitoring the electoral process. The meeting, held at European Commission Head of Delegation Dino Sinigallia's residence, was attended by Ambassadors Hans Hertell (United States) and Ronaldo Dunlop (Brazil), as well as the Canadian Charge d'Affairs Helene Guillot and the Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Elena Brineman. Local OAS representative Bertha Santoscoy announced the arrival of four OAS experts next Sunday, to establish contact with the parties involved in the electoral process.
