The Presidency recently signed the ruling for the first Consumer Protection Law No. 358-05. The law obliges manufacturers to label the contents of the goods in Spanish on their packaging. The law also obliges companies selling goods and products in foreign currency to state the equivalent in Dominican pesos.
The bill, presented to Congress by deputy Pelegrin Castillo of the Fuerza Nacional Progresista (FNP, a PLD ally) has taken 10 years to go through.
